I have read that 6.5 Grendel can be made from 7.62X39 brass. Does this mean that if I buy a Bolt carrier group for the small commie round I can match it to a 6.5 Grendel barrel?

That's what I have on my 6.5 (264 LBC), BlackHole Weaponry calls it a type 1 bolt I believe.

Welcome. It would have to be matched to a barrel that was chambered with the headspace set up for a .124" bolt face depth.
The 6.5 Grendel and Les Baer .264 LBC-AR chambers use a .136" bolt face depth. AA supported the different vendors who wanted to make Grendel barrels by supplying them with AA .136" bolt face depth bolts.
Some other vendors figured they could use .124" face depth, and the chambers are cut accordingly.
The biggest challenge with a .124" face depth is the extractor lip geometry. Since the Grendel brass rim is much thicker than 5.56, it makes sense to have more material on the extractor lip. In order to do that and have enough clearance for the extractor groove, you have to go backwards, which locates the bolt face deeper.
The strongest 7.62x39 bolts on the market are made by LMT, using one of the AerMet alloys. They have a .124" bolt face since every 7.62x39 barrel maker out there uses that design, being unaware of the R&D Colt did on the original 7.62x39 Sporter. The extractors still fail on the LMT bolts, because there just isn't enough material there.

Thanks for the info. I guess I will opt for deals I have seen where the barrel is sold with a bolt and buy a carrier separately. This way I have a match specifically for the 6.5.

You can fire form 7.62 X 39 cases to use in a 6.5 Grendel. A friend gave me several mixed 7.62 X 39 brass cases which I fire formed to 6.5 Grendel. I use them for light varmint loads where I might be more apt to loose brass. With the cost of fire forming the first time and the lesser case capacity the FF X 39 cases are of little use to some people. I have several moderate loadings on my fire formed X 39 brass and will continue to use them for plinking or light hunting ammo. I found some Sellier Bellot large rifle primers that fit real snug in PPU and my FF X 39 brass.
