Went to the range today and impressed myself at 200 yards. First time I'd shot it at that range. Used to shoot pop cans at 200 with my marlin 30-30 with iron sights as a kid. Never was much of a glass user until I built this 6.5g. Never even used a mil dot ret, or used glass period at 200yds before this either. So I studied up on reading and utilizing milradians and soon learned the magic of pairing a mil dot ret, target turrets, and a ballistics chart. Trying to find a place I can stretch to 500 now. Needless to say come November Mr white tail is going to meet Ms Grendel. I'm an avid bow hunter, but I'm actually more excited about rifle season this year after building the 6.5g.

Let me know what you fellas think. I'm pretty proud of myself considering being a virgin to 6.5g, ar platforms, and optics.

That all depends on if I'm able to draw my bow (recent back surgery). Bow here starts Oct 1 but rifle doesn't open until Nov.

Man we get rifle like 2 weeks after bow season. Thats horrible. Ive never tried the stick and string but my co workers do they are using those new fobs instead of fletchings.

Im lucky enough to have some free ranging Axis Deer on my lease and I got one last weekend with my grendel. She really filled a void, not only for my trigger finger, but was my first grendel kill and filled a nice empty space in the freezer.

I am so ready for November! I was in an accident two days prior to hunting season last year. After almost 10 months and four surgeries I'm slowly getting back on my feet. I've put together 1 1/2 Grendels for "therapy" and when I receive the final piece next week I'll be headed for the range. I'm so anxious I can taste the burnt powder now!

Will, I was wondering what had happened when you said you were still recovering, after I mentioned my back surgery. You didn't say you had an accident. Once again, glad your getting there. I'm hoping I can make Oct 1st opening day of bow. Haven't tried pulling my bow back since surgry.

Mine was work comp as well. Glad you yours only lasted 13months. I hurt my back in December of '08 and just now had surgery the 25th of last month. To give you an idea of how serious my case got, there has been new Oklahoma Work comp legislature made based solely off my case.

I was most grateful that I'd kept my very good insurance from my previous job even though it ran out about 6 months in. My wife then added me on her policy and we've made it through. I just found out a week or two ago that my wife had purchased some supplemental insurance and I've got to go back through all my bills and receipts and I'll probably receive a cash injection.
Matt I hope you make your Oct. 1 date. I lost two days of memory and was in surgery the day I was to arrive at the ranch. I don't think my hunting buddies found out where I was until the following week. If I don't see a thing, sitting in my blind will be extremely rehabilitating!!!

Thanks man so do I. Insurance is a funny thing. It either dresses your wound or puts another round in ya. I hear ya on the blind rehabilitation, I know all about missing a season. Against my wife's advice I got some therapy just shooting my new 6.5g. Even though I shot almost 100 through it just a month after surgery, it didn't put any discomfort on my spine. So little felt recoil, I love it. And I said I had surgery the 25th of last month but it was July. I thought it was still Aug for some reason.
Here's to both of us and many more filling the freezer up this year.

Thanks sneaky. I've been to the range a few times already, with no issues. My build has a heavy 24" bbl, and a magpul prs stock, so with the weight, muzzle brake, and whatever else might be a factor on mine it has so little felt recoil that it really doesn't bother me at all. Comparable to a .22 mag or .223. I'd like to shoot a little carbine build just to see the recoil difference.

I have one last piece to complete my build, it will be here this week. I started PT last week and after my session Friday I felt like I'd just walked over some hot coals LOL. I'll be leaving in about ten minutes for another session today. I want to get to the range asap to be sure everything is sorted out. I'll be going to the ranch the first weekend in Oct. to try some longer ranges. I hope "no issues" are in the near future!

Good luck and have fun. I should start pt in a couple weeks. I'm not looking forward to it. I have a very high pain threshold, but me and sadists don't get along very well.

I can't wait either. I have hunted exclusively with handguns since I was 19...at 43 I have no idea what happened.I have never had any desire to have any type military weapon. Then I read an article on the Grendel. All I can say is what the Hell is this disease, cause I have it bad. I listened to a good friend who has built many AR's, he told me how easy it was and that he would help me. Ok that really screwed me. My first was the Grendel, then along came the 458 Socom. then the next thing I know I was building 2 223 AR's. then the ultimate happened, I put together a AR10 in 338 federal, all this in a year and a half...I spent all my vacation money, wife pissed as all get out...told me that if another box from Midway showed up at the door it was going into the lake. So I surprised her with her own AR now every things ok.
