If I wanted a short-action, or if I wanted a .260/6.5x47/6.5 Creedmoor, that is what I would build. But, I don't. I want a smaller-than-short-action ("micro action") that shoots 6.5 Grendel ammunition.

Obviously I miss read the first post where I thought you asked opinions on the subject. I didn't think I was being rude in my opinion, but I must have been since you took offense to it and thought it was ok to be rude back. If you don't want feedback to your question, why ask? You obviously know more than I do so I will take note of my mistake so I won't make it again. Good luck with your "micro" action bolt gun.

I apologize for being rude in my previous post. It's just frustrating when you ask a question about something specific (which chamber for a 6.5 Grendel bolt gun) and you get no real answer, but there are three pages of replies from people telling you why something else is better. It's not just here, it's any gun board.
I am building a CZ 527 in 6.5 Grendel. The CZ is a shorter-than-short-action. It is designed for the .223 length rounds (basically anything that fits in an AR mag). It won't work with 6.5 Creedmoor/6.5x47/.260 as they are too long. It's the perfect platform for a light(er), handy Grendel rifle. I just want to squeeze the most accuracy out of it that I can, hence my original question.
I still haven't decided on a chamber. I sent out another CZ 527 to be rebarreled for 300 Blackout to keep me occupied while I decided on what to do with the Grendel build.

The guy that KNOWS this answer is Robert Stokes, who has built multiple bolt Grendels, including a Panda that shoots TINY groups.
Unfortunately, he hasn't returned since the board went back up, and I haven't been able to find his email.

Hi Bill,
I did finally find my way back with your help. My light hunting bolt rifle uses a Pac-Nor barrel and has the PTG 6.5 Match chamber, it shoots real well with most loads and under .5" ten shot groups with it's preferred load using the Berger 130 grain hunting VLD. This one is a 1:8 twist three groove.
My Panda is a slow twist 1:12 set up for shooting light flat based custom bench rest bullets and is a minimum dimension chamber, I wouldn't recommend it for a hunting rifle but it is great for shooting bug hole groups. I don't think it has ever shot a group at 100 yards from the bench that had any paper between bullets, just one hole. I'll be shooting it tomorrow morning in our club any/any prone midrange reduced match from a sling. I know any shots out of the X were my fault.
I also have the original reamers that Speedy used to make the first F-Class Grendel, the one that is written up on 6mmBR but it is a no freebore throat set up for soft seating the bullets into the lands and has a really tight neck that requires turning the cases.
For a hunting rifle I don't think the OP would go wrong with the Walther Lothar of the Pac-Nor barrel. I lean towards the Pac-Nor because I've had really good luck with them nothing against the Walther Lothar, I'm just not as familiar with them.

I'm building a AR chambered in Grendel because choices are limited on this platform for good all around performing calibers. But why would you build it into a bolt gun when there are so many better options available? Are you a gun collector and just like having different guns? I'm just curious. Thanks.

I have a 308 233 and 6.5 I don't want any move reloading crap on my bench. Other people love lots of calibers that's cool if you have the time. To me bolt guns are as fun as semi autos.
This was a fun build for me. I have a grendel on an AR platform also. I also have a 223 AR and 308 AR also both those calibers are in bolt action too. Fun stuff. Thought I would post this because I had a lot of PM's about building a 6.5 bolt action. I'm not a gun collector just enough to have some fun.

Are you able to set the bullets out any further and to gain some case capacity? Just wondering if you can squeeze any more velocity out of a blot gun since you don't have any of the limitations of a gas system and a relatively weak AR bolt.

Thanks.To answer this question it is necessary to define better, I own several 6.5 caliber bolt rifles, 6.5X55, 260 Remington, 6.5 STW, and 6.5x54 Mannlicher-Schonauerr rifles and don't consider them better. I also have two very different 6.5 Grendel bolt rifles that excel at their given roles. One is a very heavy prone rifle built on a Stolle-Panda action with a McMillan Anschutz profile prone stock and a 2 oz Timmney trigger and sporting a 36X Leupold bench rest scope. This was task specific built to compete in any/any class reduced course midrange prone matches. It does this better than a 260 would because of less barrel heat creating less mirage or barrel tension and does it better than a 6mm PPC because of the larger bullet diameter increases X count (it is expected that the score will be a perfect 500 out of 500, the winner determined by X count). This rifle excels at this task.
The second rifle is a light weight rifle designed for hunting whitetails in timber. It is built on a Remington Model 7 action, 20" Pac-Nor barrel, McMillan edge stock and sports a Leupold 1.5-5 VX3 scope with heavy duplex reticles mounted in Talley light weight rings. The whole rig weighs only 5 lbs 8 oz. Is a delight to handle and pack long distances. It puts five 130 grain Berger Hunting VLD's in .5" or less at 100 yards and is perfectly capable of putting down any whitetail that walks the face of the earth with a point blank range of 260 yards. I have similar rifles in heavier calibers, but the recoil from such a light rifle is unpleasant and unnecessary. The Grendel does anything they will and is a whole lot more fun.
So for these two applications, it seems to me that the Grendel is better than other calibers, as I have defined their tasks.
However, when I was completing my Grand Slam of North American Wild Sheep, and had tens of thousands of dollars riding on the shot, I took my 6.5 STW, it is clearly superior for that task. I packed it for 31 days through 250 miles of British Columbia alpine type terrain. And when the time came it performed perfectly.
Tomorrow morning, I will be competing in an any/any match and the 6.5 Grendel Panda will be the perfect choice.
Anyway, I assume you asked the question in earnest and this is an earnest answer.

I read your sig line to my wife. Her response was "We already know you boys are full of crap when you tell us how much something cost.". I guess your investment is safe.
My question was really oriented towards the performance side of the cartridge. Have you noticed any increase in potential velocity without overpressure or brass damage? Not that the cartridge needs it, just curious. I have plans to build an ultra light hunting rifle mainly for my daughter on a CZ 527 micro action.
