I had to wait more than I wanted for a Bartlein from PF. While it was excruciating it was worth it. Top notch. If only Mark sold big bore barrels I wouldn'the buy from anyone else, just order early in the build.

I guess I got lucky. Called Satern two weeks back asking about a price on a 20" cut rifle barrel in a medium profile. They had one on the shelf...two days later I had it in my hands.

From the outside looking in that makes building look pretty stupid. Most places want that or more for just a barrel.
Darn good price, especially for a 20".
Just the barrel is $275 I see after some poking around which also isn't too bad. Waiting for feedback too.

I bought a 18" .556 nato upper from Hardened Arms a couple of months back. Fit and finish was very nice. This upper will shoot 1 moa at 100 yards. Good upper for the price.

Can't really speak for any other barrel aside from my Shilen, but I like it. Looking for a handload it likes, but she's shot a few loads at .4-.6 MOA so far and I know she got more in her.

Bolt face depth I'm told from a rep is. "It is 0.136."
I have 3 questions:
1.Both barrels are 1/9 twist, is this acceptable?
2.Would 2-3" moa at 200yds be unreasonable or would i be expecting to much out of a "rack" grade barrel?
3. Is POI going to be that much of a difference going from a 16" to a 20" barrel?

I have the J&T Distributing 16" 6.5 Grendel HBar barrel with Phantom flash hider. I'm using a standard military CAR hand guard. I bought my J&T as a complete flat top upper back in 2009. The 16" 6.5 Grendel barrel has as much potential accuracy as the 20". The biggest difference is the 20" will produce about 80 FPS more velocity than a 16" 6.5 Grendel.
I shot my 16" 6.5 Grendel J&T Saturday, had a round 6" steel plate a 200 yards, a 12" round plate at 300 yards a reduced size steel silhouette at 400 and 500 yards. The winds was between 8 and 12 MPH and after putting my dope on my scope I hit every target every time but once. Once at 500 yards I held higher on the head and shot over the top of the target. Had I just used the same hold I wouldn't have missed. I have used this barrel to shoot at 600 yards a few times but for shooting 800 yards I'm at the top end of my elevation adjustment.
For having a non free floated barrel on a 16" 6.5 Grendel I have been impressed. I was shooting at 450' ASL and if your going to shoot past 700 yards closer to sea level I'd recommend a 20 MOA mount. The 1:9 twist barrel is a non issue for me as I don't plan on shooting bullets heavier than 125 grains. A 1:8 twist barrel might be desireable but with my J&T I have shot several hundred 85, 90, 95, 100 and 107 grain bullets. I have gained acceptable accuracy with everything I have shot in this barrel. Rack grade barrels are luck of the draw. I got lucky and got a very good barrel.

Thanks for this post much appreciated! Would the non-chrome lined version aid in a little better accuracy then the chromed line version or is this a mute point? I noticed the 16" version is a carbine gas system & the 20" is a rifle length, what buffer would you use with the 16" carbine HBar?

IMO for the money with the J&T, between their weight and either being plain 4140 or chrome lined (or stainless) they are not that great of a deal. The slower twist doesn't help any either.
Your results may vary but that is what I thought when I looked them over.
Non chromed lined should help accuracy a tad... but it isn't hard to find a nitrided barrel at that price point either.

I think what i like most, all i have to do is install gas tube & magpul hanguard and im done. I wont have to spend another $130-$250 on a rail.

ordered mine on 29 January 2017. Just received it on 9 May 2017. Hopefully putting it together this weekend. All the parts are in and ready to be assembled.

I have mostly used my carbine spring and buffer but recently put a Spike's T-2 buffer to try since I had bought it for another build. I can't see the change in buffer has made any significant difference. My barrel is the 4140 chrome moly. I really wasn't concerned about corrosion and didn't opt for the chrome lined. I am using the Carbine gas system since this 16" 6.5 Grendel was built to match my 223/5.56 duty rifle. There are way more products to choose todaycompared to 2009.
