It looks like a short stumpy pointed no powder 458 Socom. Just get a Beowulf and be done with it. They make Hornady aerodynamic ammo that works great around 1900fps. And lots of powder to expand.

I also wonder if you could cut a Beowulf case down and use a Barnes Triple Shock BMG 647gr and go sub sonic...

50 BMG bullets are .510, you'll have serious pressure issues sending them down a .500 pipe. The .500 S&W, .50 AE, and Beowulf all have true .500 bores to meet the "destructive device" compliant regulations.

The 12ga is an exception to the "destructive device" rule. I get having and indeed have 300blk in the AR, but I am not sure I get the problem the .458SOCOM, 50Beowulf and the like are the solution for to begin with. I am in no way mocking or suggesting it is a horrible idea, I just don't get it.

My first thought was a sawed off .458. .458 SOCOM does a pretty good job loaded subsonic. I have some factory loaded 500 grain soft nose pills that will hurt something big if they're close enough.

Neat novelty. I bet it sounds cool hitting steel targets.
If you really need a subsonic big bore carbine, .45 ACP with modern defensive ammo is the most "practical". But, then again, who ever said gun nuts were practical?

They are nasty pig medicine. They are nasty Bear medicine. They will stop vehicles by disabling the engine and are used to do so in some rather nasty sandboxes. They will tear down a brick or cinder block wall, thus taking away that cover and making it poor concealment, even.
Its essentially a 45-70 in an AR, so if you'd use a 45-70, you can use the .458 or Beowulf.
But most importantly, its just because! I have never had another rifle that will gather a crowd like the Beowulf will. If I start shooting it on a busy range, within 5 minutes people are wandering over to have a look and getting a chance to shoot it.
If you need to put something down "Right NOW!" its the ticket.

That's about the only caliber I won't build from scratch, because you have to mill out the ejection port. I bought a complete RRA upper. It's the only one of my AR's that I didn't build from stripped receivers

I am contemplating building it from scratch by purchasing a pre milled 458 socom spec upper receiver.

Should be smooth sailing then. The only other thing would be a long lead time for the barrel/bolt. Don't recon that would shock anybody around here
