BjornF16 Wrote:County LE means sheriffs here in Texas…they are some of the most pro 2A supporters in the state. I'm not sure what time period you are referring to, but it sounds like the 60's.

Some of the municipal LE (city police) may have anti 2A sentiments. Austin, San Antonio, Houston and Dallas come to mind. Add Temple (too close to Austin). The rest are pretty supportive of 2A.

I think the "big city" police departments end up anti 2A because they are appointed officials and most of the big cities are liberal leaning. Sheriffs are elected officials and tend to follow the majority of their constituency.

If you have a CHL in Texas, you get to skip the search line and can conceal carry in the state capitol...

I was referring to the incident where the guy was disarmed and detained, had his AR15 confiscated, while out working with his son on a merit badge. There is also a lot of the small town mentality among many of the LE in TX, but I have seen that everywhere from sea to shining sea. A lot of those guys couldn't care to spell Constitution, because it is meaningless to them. There's a particular county I'm thinking of in Utah that is this way too. I know the former sheriff, who spent much of his time taking the prostitutes to the local doctor to make sure they were free of STD's. His story in and of itself is a shocker best left for an offline discussion because I don't want to air dirty laundry, but let's just say that it is one of the worst I have heard.

Same with my buddy who was a retired SF officer that went to work for Harnett County in NC. Totally corrupt. He went to the narcotics unit and started working his informant network, and eventually discovered the Sheriff was sanctioning certain marijuana growers and drug smugglers. They moved him to regular patrol/traffic shortly after, so he quit and started doing contract work.

The 2A is just a piece of paper. If we don't have moral people upholding the foundational principles of the Nation, it doesn't matter what our governing documents say-they will be eroded and trampled by the likes of crooked Sheriff's, Police Chiefs, DA's, Congressrats, and Presidents, who attract and hire more criminals into positions of power.

Nukes Wrote:I started this thread because an activist pastor is advancing 2A rights and awareness by his open carry.

Now the thread degenerated into just another "my favorite [non-Grendel] gun" and "looky here at this [non-2A, non-Grendel] video" chew the fat.

Astute readers understand why some directly 2A threads get locked down (like the one mentioning Bloomberg's criminal anti-2A activity), but why the in-crowd can blather about anything, even make personal attacks, though insisting that they themselves deserve "respect" because of their elevated position.

Bottom line: I don't object to people enjoying their conversations, this one included, but the hypocrisy of those with control issues and personal vendettas is glaring.

I suppose that telling the truth will get me banned again.

You are correct, I have allowed this thread to wander, mea culpa.

Back to the issue at hand, boys.

I'm not sure he is advancing the cause, that is yet to be proven. HE hopes he is, and at least he's making a stand!

She is a typical liberal. If anyone said to her what you did in your post, it would not register. Lights on, no one home. No sense in even talking with them. They will not be convinced, will not care to listen, etc. so even giving them the time of day is a waste of a person's life. LR1955
Larry, I don't think you are right with this position. I have personally engaged several people with this exact same stance as the lady in the article, discussed it with them calmly and intelligently, seen them change their positions over time and at least two of them are concealed weapons permit holders now. One of them carries regularly and has several rigs for different situations. She sincerely believed that guns were scary and that nobody should have them. Now she regularly discusses different holster rigs to make it more comfortable to carry all the way from a 1911 down to a .380 depending upon wardrobe required.

Bob:

I could go on for hours about the hard core leftist on the West Coast, but as Bill said a few posts ago, we got to stick to the topic of the thread.

You can probably start a new thread on the topic of convincing anti-gunners of the merits of concealed carry.

Everyone, Nukes was correct, Montana and I were having fun and had carried the thread off topic, with videos of some great shooters. I moved the videos and posts to a new thread entitled "Fun Stuff" here:

http://www.65grendel.com/forum/showthread.php?6875-Fun-stuff

Since some of you didn't see those before I moved them, Nukes comments weren't in context.

I am removing all of the subsequent posts, because they are simply not in context with the thread at this point.

Second amendment rights, convincing others, it is both on topic. I'll keep it on this thread.

I like using emotions and fear, which is what the anti-freedom groups prey upon. When I encounter someone who says they won't even touch a gun, I ask them how important their families are to them? Would they do anything for their kids, elderly parents, maybe even neighbors? "Of course!"

If you were in the house, and a convict high on meth broke in, or tried to carjack you with your babies still strapped in the car, would you shoot them to save your family, or let them beat, rape, and strangle them or take the car with your babies still inside?

If you were out walking in the park or on a local trail, and some irresponsible dog owner lets their 100lb fighting dog with a bad temperament off-leash, would you stand and let it savagely shred your child's arm off, or shoot it before it has a chance?

One could go on...

Bob:

Not a problem.

LA is a pretty conservative state. You don't have one metropolitan area that decides every election for the whole state and the one you do have isn't leftist.

You can convince a liberal. You won't convince a leftist. The ones in Seattle have authored gun bans that have been defeated only because liberals were appalled at the draconian measures and gross violations of rights that were in these measures.

Paul wrote up some arguments. The anti-gunners in Seattle would scoff at them. Even after they have been victims of crimes, you will never see them concede a pro gun argument of any kind. They want all guns banned from target guns to military firearms. Black powder guns, cap guns, toy guns, etc.

No fears. They will migrate your way soon enough.

Very good examples. My wife is not opposed to guns by any means, and 20 years ago before we were married she used to shoot with me. I've tried getting her to shoot with me since we had our son and her excuse is she doesn't want to shoot anyone. My reply is "Well nobody wants to shoot someone, but if hunters (my son) life is in danger you should be prepared."Still nothing yet, but I'm not giving up. BTW, she knows how to operate the pistol I keep inside the house, and she's a pretty good shot, but I think the mental training aspect needs to be addressed. I also admit that I need to brush up on my pistol skills, and I've fabricated some new targets and plan to add a perpetrators noggin to it for added practice.

Guys:

http://www.king5.com/news/local/Gun-rights-supporters-back-Starbucks-despite-boycott-220952681.html

So, it appears that the gun rights guys went into Starbucks using open carry to demonstrate their support for the 2d Amendment and nothing adverse happened. The leftists didn't show up out of protest but Starbucks didn't lose any money, either. This hit Fox news at the national level like it did last year.

I do think it is more effective than the preacher man parading around with an AR on his back. These guys are serious about it and there isn't any room to question their intentions.

I went to a Starbuck's south of Atlanta at an off time and I was the only one there except for the massive crowd that was practically overwhelming the place, and I joked with the barristas who were familiar with the boycott but said it had been a particularly busy day and I was the only one who had mentioned it.
