I really like Lantac Dragon muzzle brakes. I tried maybe 4 different Mfg's and watched many comparison tests on YouTube and the L.D. was always very highly rated. Just go to YouTube and type Muzzle brake comparison into the search bar, lots of Vids on this come up.

I guess I am odd man out. I have a 12" and a 14½", and all I have are A2 style flash suppressors. Standard on the 12" and Stoner Extended, pinned and welded, on the 14½". My 14 year old granddaughter shoots them both with no issues what so ever.

Ill make a different suggestion.
Seekins ATC brake is amazing.
I used it for years on my .223 and liked it so much I got the .308 version for my 6.5 Grendel. Works great.

Only one of my seven 6.5 Grendels has a muzzle brake because it came with one from LaRue that way.
22 is not threaded.
18 LaRue has the Tranquilo brake
17.6 Lilja is A2
AA fluted 18 is A2
16 Lilja is A2
12 is suppressed with TBAC Flash Hider attach
10.5 is TBD, with the plan to put a large volume Ti can on it.
I need to do a side-by-side some time with the LaRue Stealth and another one of the 18 Grendels. The Tranquilo isnt obnoxious like most other brakes, which is nice.

FWIW, Desert Tech has a pretty good 6.5MM unit on the MDR. It's made for a 20" 6.5CM, but I imagine will do OK on a shorter BBL 6.5 Grendel. It works quite well, and makes the MDR a pleasant rifle to shoot.

I'm kinda interested in the Wilson Q comp.
I'm in the middle of building a 16" with a barrel from sixfiveoutfitters (thanks to this forum)
I have a VG6 to put on it, but I'm all about trying 'shorter' stuff. Muzzle devices are cheap "toys" to try out after all.
I only have 2 other guns with brakes.. otherwise I have 3 prongs and some other stuff.
my 12" Grendel has a griffin linear comp on it with the taper mount threads.

I guess Im the really odd man out. I run thread protectors on all of mine and would actually prefer unthreaded. Most of my guns are truck guns I have to use in a hurry and stopping to find earplugs many times results in a lost opportunity. I also prefer 20 tubes because of reduced noise. In sporting clays ported barrels are very popular these days. I trap a lot of tournaments and can tell you the ports make trapping a much tougher job. By the end of three or four days Im pretty much a hater. And I wear high NRR plugs the whole time and at times muffs over those.

Thought I'd jump in and give my favorite muzzle brake for every caliber. Witt Machine makes ready-to-ship brakes for .30 and 5.56, but offers the custom option for any caliber you have. I have already used 3 of them. One for my AR-10/308, a .50 Beowulf AR pistol and my custom made AR-10 in .22-250. I am currently building my 6.5 Grendel now, and I will be ordering one for this. They consistently add approximately 8-10 dB in noise pressure, however they totally help with recoil and muzzle rise beautifully. Spec your caliber, cerakote color, thread pattern and you're ready to go. These have five fins with multiple ports up top, and they are hands-down gorgeous on every rifle. If it was mentioned earlier in the thread I missed seeing it, the JP Recoil Eliminator is hard to beat if you don't mind the looks of them.

I run a Dead Air Key-Mo break on all my rigs. Recoil is down, but noise to bystanders is up... until I attached the Sandman S. Nice and quiet now.

I found the v6 gamma brake fairly obnoxious on an 18 and 20" build. Went without a brake and enjoyed shooting both much more. Putting a brake on the grendel is overrated if you have a reasonable length barrel imho.

I'm in the no-brake camp, if you're taking a consensus. The VG6 Gamma and Omega brakes I tried on my 5.56 rifles really make my ears ring. And that's with earplugs and ear muffs. No thanks. I still have a Gamma on my 18" 5.56, but I also have their CAGE gadget on that for good measure.
On two of my three Grendels (the 16" and 20") I am using the SixFiveOutfitters low-pro flash hiders. And on third and probably final Grendel upper-build, a 22" Wilson SS fat-barrel, I ended up getting their own thread protector after looking around for a bit. Wish I'd discovered they made a near perfect TP for this dia barrel for this barrel of theirs when I got my barrel; I'd have been able to paint it at the same time and shoot it in an odd rattle-can green. Anyway, here's what that looks like. I say near perfect because I'd have preferred it not to have the flats. I can get it tight enough with just a wrap of raw hide and channel locks.

Popeye, you sent that VG6 Gamma to me when I got that upper. The muzzle blast, when I shot a hog and was not wearing hearing protection, was astounding and painful. I took off the VG6 and put an A2 Birdcage on it. If someone has the need for the VG6, let me know.
I have now bought ear muff type protection for all hunting blinds on the place.

You can find better prices at other places than the VG6 page. I think I saw them on sale somewhere else for $45.00 just a couple of weeks ago.
I also used the Accu-Washer shims to time the Epsilon and Gamma. Don't need any shims on the Lambda.

I'm a fan of the Witt Machine SMEs - I use the 30-cal for my 12" 6.5. I had a VG6 on there and I made it about 4 shots before I capitulated. Too much concussion and it made my eyeballs hurt
. The SMEs direct blast forward and cut noise/blast to the shooter well - not quite like a suppressor by close enough w/o paperwork. I have the VG6 on my 22" Creedmoor now, and still think about putting the A2 on it. After 50 shots I feel it in my eyes. 22" barrel helps as it's further away, but still a blaster. I would take slightly more recoil over the concussion/blast wave from the brakes.

They didn't make one for the 6.5 when I ordered it so I
bought it for 30 caliber but it still works pretty good for reducing recoil and muzzle jump...

No brakes for me. I like the slim flash hiders like BFT has on his website. My favorite is one from Brownells, but is pricey.
