Red are something to consider if you have suppressed, or 18 MLGS.
For me, it seems to work as a bit of a rate reducer to keep the bolt locked in-battery longer.
They arent necessary for 14.5 MLGS, 16 MLGS, or 20 RLGS. You can use Blue on those for slightly more spring tension.
Basically a way to deal with preventing early unlocking in a gas system set-up where the cyclic rate tends to run faster.
The OP wont need an increased power spring on an 18 ILGS, for example. That will run very smoothly with standard carbine with a 2.9-3.0oz buffer with common ammo weights (100-130gr).

I just broke open the 12 CLGS Grendel that I've run exclusively suppressed since 2018, and the Franklin Armory spring I put in it is 11 9/16 long.
My LaRue complete Stealth rifle from the factory has a white painted spring that is 10.5 long.
I checked a random 16 5.56 carbine I have and it was also 10.5 long spring.
Another spring option to consider is the Geissele 42 braided 3-wire spring.

I currently have a Faxon 12" Grendel and am in the planning stages of something longer for extended range shooting. I'm trying to decide between a 16" or 18" barrel for the new build.

From shooters perspective and external ballistics, the differences between 12, 14.5, 16, and 18 arent much to write home about.
I can list them in detail, but I personally just dont see a big difference when behind the scope.
If youre wanting to shoot more long range, it might be best to go with 20-24, depending on what ranges you have access to and what elevation these ranges are at.
If youre looking for more hunting reach, thats another thing to consider.
Its also easier to manage a rifle set-up versus a shorter gun when using a bipod and rear bag. The longer the gas system, the better-behaved the firearm is in the optic to spot your own hits.

You have me seriously considering going with a 20" now. I would like to enhance downrange performance ( especially bullet expansion velocities )
at extended distances.
I'm in Central Kentucky, so I think around 300 ft above sea level .
I'm also currently looking for a scope for this new build. I'm thinking somewhere between a 4-14x and a 6-24x FFP.
I've never done any LONG range shooting. When younger, a friend and I used to shoot groundhogs on his parent's farm at about 250 yards with a 7mm mag bolt gun. That was FUN
My eyes aren't what they used to be so I'm not really sure how much magnification I will need.

You used to have Rock Castle Shooting Center right near you, but the owners sold it at auction a few years ago. That would have been your best bet.
I tried looking around for any long ranges in Kentucky but am at a loss so far. Its not my AO so Im not that familiar with the State and available outdoor shooting ranges.
If youre really tall, a 20 might make sense for busting brush and hunting in KY. Otherwise, I think 16-18 will do you fine.

I remember hearing about Rock Castle but never got out there.
I'm not really concerned about shooting " ranges " for this. I have friends with farms and am currently looking for acreage to buy so I will have multiple options for longer range shooting.
And, I'm not tall. 5'10" and about 150 lbs

I have done several 20 and 18 inch Grendels. For a 20, I like a rifle length gas system and a 1in9 twist. I dont care for 1in8 with a 20 and the ones Ive dealt with seem to be more finicky. Bill Alexander talked about this in his testing with 20 barrels. Mine will shoot. But it likes heavies or prefers that I back off of the charge a little on 123s.
For the 18 barrels, RLGS has done fine with 123s but I like the Intermediate Gas better for all around use.
The last three barrels I have used have been AA barrels. 2 Fluted 20s and a Fluted 18. The fluted 18 is very light and with Aero parts predominantly the one I did last week came in at 7 pounds empty. Too light for me but I didnt build this one for myself. The gas ports on each of these was sized perfectly. All three have shot well. I hand load and am still in development but accuracy hasnt been an Issue. I went with a AA bolt in all 3 and would recommend if you go this route to use the AA gas block as it covers the stainless steel journal completely and the detents match.
Its just me and my preference but I prefer a naked 20 with a thread protector. It may not look as cool but its easier on my ears.

I have handled and shot 3 7mag carbon fiber barrels in christionson bolt guns recently. I do not like brakes at all but I have to admit the weight savings and accuracy were there for someone looking for a nice hunting package. They certainly have their place.

This was a "pig build" I needed to swing it 180' between 2 feeders. The BA DMR was a shooter but swinging that beast over the top was not that easy.

I'm still waiting. To be fair, I ordered a barrel with fluting and nitride. Both of which add weeks to the timeline and I knew that going in.

I built a rifle with a 22" Criterion barrel installed and for the money, It can't be beat. Extremely accurate with reloads, A I've dumped a few hogs and coyotes with it.

My PF/Criterion barrel came in on Friday, June 2nd.
I did have them change from nitride to Cerakote for accuracy purposes. The barrel looks fantastic inside and out.
Another question:
The gas port is measuring .094". Considering the 18" barrel, ILGS, and JP FMOS BCG, will I need an adjustable gas block? The port seems large from the reading I've done, and I was hoping to avoid anything adjustable, but input is certainly welcomed.

No you will not need an adjustable gas block unless you are suppressing it. The port is reamed at .0920
