I think with a drop in you get a tighter geometry and trigger pull is what it says without adjustment. Functionally, they aren't much heavier but provide a wider option of trigger shoes etc. Never blew a primer before but the cheapest cartridge trigger I have tried has been a rise armament. I use both depending on what gun I pick up. Install is far easier with the cartridge obviously.

Well.....I said I was gonna wait until my AR15 arrived before I did anything with the trigger.
Yesterday I changed my mind and went ahead and ordered a TriggerTech Diamond flattie for AR-15.

Lazyengineer ..Im not sure why I was about to die to get a drop in. I have great triggers in all my gassers.
Perhaps its because Im selfish and self centered and have to buy stuff to feel good about myself.

LazyE asks some of the best questions. Id also be interested in hearing about your compare/contrasts with the drop-in trigger when you have a few boxes emptied.

Drop in triggers work great in most applications. But don't put one in a 7.62x39 upper and try to shoot Russian ammo, the hammer springs will not set off the primers. I learned the hard way.
I switchd to a high polish nickel boron trigger with an enhanced hammer spring in the lower dedicated to my 7.62x39 upper. The kit shipped with 2 springs, standard and enhanced, color coded to distinguish the two.
Now, if you roll your own or buy brass ammo only, you may never suffer light strikes in a 7.62x39.

That's an intersting point. I never looked hard at drop in due to the higher cost and I'm ok with THE PITA of the 2-part trigger installation (though will admit, it is a mild PITA, especially to those out of practice). So I've always dismissed drop in as expensive for those looking for an easier install. Not being judgy, nothing wrong with that! But when you could get a LaRue 2-stage for <$90 that was an easy decision. In retrospect, you make an excellent point that by being a one-piece unit, they get to control the tolerances reliably and precisely. Where in theory a sloppy recieve pin hole set may yield a lesser trigger experience with a conventional 2-part.
Not something I have run into, but I could see it being a factor sometimes.
By the way, as a tangent, the LaRue trigger was (and still is) purposely underpriced by design. The story is entertaining,, as part of a pissing match that started up between LaRue and Geisslel. Basically they had a pairing up and gentleman's agreement, until G starting talking smack about LaRue scope mounts, and KABOOM it just spiralled out of control from there. LaRue ego and gumption to talk smack as well is a bit infamous too - he eventually got banned from AR15.COM even Net result, was a very good trigger at a screw-you price to his competitor. Personally, I love and respect them both. And happily buy whoever is the best choice for my project.

Giessle 3 Gun straight bar trigger. Will change your life. Plus 1 for the JP roller. My buddy has one and it solid. I stuck with the 3 gun for consistency.

With the drop-in triggers, you get a much more refined system that isn't limited by the geometry of the original pin locations as pivot points. Geissele and LaRue have mastered the milspec based triggers, but there's only so much they can do to improve the feel with the limitations of the milspec design & sear interface.
TriggerTech has a breakdown of their tech - and while a lot of it sounds like marketing buzzwords, it's a pretty interesting design that gives their triggers a very unique feel. I'm sure AR Gold, Jard, Rise, and the other major drop-in manufacturers have their own take on trigger tech that makes them more consistent than traditional triggers.
Trigger selection is a very subjective thing, so you might need to try a few options before you find your preference, and you might prefer a different style for each role. But it's hard to go wrong with anything mentioned in this thread.

Good choice. Don't try to snug up on the Diamond like you might on a Jewell Bolt Action trigger while it's at it's minimum setting. I've had some doubles while shooting off of my benchrest due to trying to treat them like a boltgun. A couple extra clicks (you'll understand when you get it) or a solid pull works every time.

I use the TriggerTech Diamond with the regular curved trigger(not the pro curved one) on my Grendel. Have never had any trouble so far. I have been able to run it at about 1.5lb without any problems so far. Make sure that you still feel clicks on the adjustment when you adjust the screw out to lower the pull weight otherwise screw it back in til you feel at least one click.
I also have the Adaptive flat trigger version that I use on my 5.56Nato ARs and it has been very stable. I run it at about 3lbs.
