The scope alone is $1250.00 and it comes with a 3 year warranty.
Availability is better these days then in the past.
Illuminators come in all sorts of styles, you have to utilize an illuminator based on your scopes design and technology.
The pulsar is nothing more than a fancy CCTV camera (array of lenses) intergrated into a shooting scope. It is not light sensitive, meaning that you can use it in the daytime and it will not burn up the device, so I say that to say this, you could use a spotlight as an illuminator with the pulsar (one of those $35.00 6 million candlewatt
jobers) with excellent results. Here is a video I captured with the Pulsar and a spotlight with a 17.00 IR pass filter from Ebay

With regards to spotlights:
Do the otters scare when lights are shone on them?
If you were to setup a light around the pond (condition them to it) would they carry on as usual?
An IR pass filter does nothing more than "knock down" the visible light and allow the IR light to work for the application.
Going Stealth:
The IR (infrared) illuminator casts light in the non-visible spectrum to the human eye however nightvision devices can "see" the light just fine. They come in all shapes and sizes and intensities as well as frequencies. The pulsar makes the best use out of IR illuminator in the ~800nm range.
A couple of things to consider on IR illuminators: what distance will you need illumination out to \ what power supply is required to run the illuminator \ what setup is best for the application.
MOST illuminators are weapons mounted and you align the IR beam to your scopes field of view and presto you are "hot" with the image. Downside is most weapons mounted options have a max range of 150 yards. The best weapons mounted light for the $$$ is the TNVC "Da Torch".
MOST illuminators run on standard batteries onboard to the illuminator , sort of like a flashlight. Some of the larger more robust illuminators such as the one I am using require 12 - 24 volt current or A/C power. I wired up a couple of 12 volt deer feeder batteries in a 24 volt configuration, I integrated an on/off switch to save battery power. Works for me.
SOME guys go with both a weapons mounted illuminator for the quick and dirty work up close and then have a fixed setup on a known baited area for the traditional hunting configuration.
Illuminators run from about $ 250.00 to $1200.00 bucks depending on what you like....
Hope this helps, again all the above is specific to the Pulsar scope - setting up and using illuminators with Gen 1 / 2 / 3 type nightvision (green tubes) is much different and an illuminator can actually burn/kill your scope. Here is my PVS-14 setup on my 7.62x40WT, waiting on the suppressor paperwork so can knock down the noise a bit, this is a PVS-14 with 3x magnifier behind a Eotech EXPS3-0 that is NV capable, note on the top rail is an IR Laser, I since added a pressure switch so I don't have to move the lever over:

by the way, love the video above, i saw it on youtube earlier....I have a ATN IR-450 on the side of the pulsar which works good, also for spotting have a handheld flashlight with IR bulb in it that works good....keep up the good work on the video's

Thanks Benny bone for explaining the details. How did ya learn about this stuff? Where do research to learn more about it? Also I never was able to spotlight the dsng otters at night. I would drive my truck out to the pond with my son. I figured if we could spotlight em, I could bag em, but they never appeared before we got bored. I only saw one all last winter when I was driving home and pulling over the drainage ditch bridge into the long lane that passes the pond. I spotted an otter on the ice but he was gone in the shadows quick. I did see another during deer season swimming in the drainage ditch during the day and missed him by a fraction of an inch with my 7-08. I'm not buying anymore fish to stock till I get rid of em

can you give me a little detail on the IR Pass thur filter .. What to look for ? Brand /Type ? Is there a Number/rating that gives better transmission. A number to be above or below for maxinum distance

if you are using an IR filter, you will really need alot of light, as it really cuts down on the light going through it, Benny used a spotlight with it
You can use a IR Flashlight or IR Illuminator, on the side of my N550 I use a ATN IR-450:

The instructions that came with my filter say: NOT RECOMMENDED FOR LED LIGHTS. For best results use with incandescent light sources. The acrylic plastic will burn if exposed to heat producing toxic fumes, do not use with lights that produce excessive heat for long periods of time.
DO NOT LOOK INTO THE LIGHT FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME AS YOU CAN DAMAGE YOUR EYES.
As to the light wavelength it depends on what your version of night vision sees best, you will have to ask the manufactuer if the ~600nm / ~700nm / ~800nm / 900nm range is best for your device and then get with the seller to see if he has that version.
@hydrotech - I am self taught brutha, WAY TOO MUCH time on the Internet immersing myself in this stuff. Also I look for cheap ways to do things first, see what works in the field - believe it or not you learn alot by breaking stuff :p

Here is a video using the Bosch AEGIS illuminator from the same hunting stand as the previously posted "Homemade Illuminator" video. The Bosch setup is lighter (weight) easier to operate solo and of course NO hotspot (even illumination). P.S. I think the cows can see or sense the IR illumination, something to think about and watch with other animals.....

It is called Dr. Bob's doubler adapter, you get it from the U.K. Email him here and tell him BennyBone sent ya !!!

His adapter pairs up with a Sony 1.7x teleconverter lense in front of the native lense.
I tried my own doubler design and the original bell housing is all FUBAR, so when I tried Dr. Bob's it was too late for me I had already messed up the bell housing mating surface. On a bone stock Pulsar it should do the trick nicely!
Be advised though I tested the Sony Doubler with the IR illuminator and out to 400 yards the light coming through both lenses was not really enough to take advantage of the additional magnification.
SO IF you are intended to double the 4x to 8x I would say USEABLE range on the setup is 200 yards max.
I will sale you my Sony Teleconverter lense if you are interested since I can't use it until I source a replacement bell housing but since work has me busy I don't plan on hunting for quite awhile so PM me if you are interested in it.
