E-Lander magazine problems - VASCAR2 - 11-14-2019
The current AA mags are E-Lander. I suggest you take the floor plate off and remove the follower and spring. You should be able to visually inspect the seam and welds on the inside of the mag body. If there are rough spots you might be able to file off the rough spots or try to return defective mags to vendor. I’d also inspect the follower for excess plastic from molding and remove. The follower should move up and down in the body smoothly.
There have been reports of the front seam on some of the E-Lander mags being spot welded out of alignment which pretty much makes the mags unserviceable. If your mags have this problem I’d contact the vendor who sold them to you. Brownell’s, LaRue Tactical and AA have been very good about replacing defective E-Lander mags.

I have two Elanders that I bought from a guy who only put 50 rds through a Grendel rifle. After using them at first, I was at a loss to what could be wrong with my rifle. I have a thread not too far down the list. I bought a couple 10rd CProd DuraMags and it is flawless now. Elanders are over hyped, over priced pieces of shit in my in my opinion. Like someone said before, you shouldn’t have to break in, modify or smooth over a $27 mag.

My elanders have worked well and do my c-products. The c-products 10 rounders though I had to clean up the hack job on the followers as it looked like someone took a hack saw to legs and just stuffed the follower back into the mag, 5 round ones were fine with unabused follower legs.

I have two of the 25 round, two of the 17 round, and two of the 5 round Elander magazines, and have not had any problems with them. Not doubting anyone who says that they have, just adding my experience to the Horde.

Yeah, well, when someone starts making mags in the volume and finish of a Magpul Polymag for Grendel, that's when your statement will mean something. Until then, none of them are 100%, and every company I've tried has had issues. This is called R&D/T&E. One of these days they'll all be perfect, or the maker who can finally finish a magazine to the flawless state will win. For my money, the Elanders are better quality than any of the ASC, or CPROD mags I've used.
I will admit, my Cprod and ASCs are early production, which probably means they suck more than they do now. But they're so bad, I've sworn off them both. Same for Stoners from Midway. Sad, sad sorry mags, all three brands.

Update - i have not had any luck with this batch of E-Landers. I have 3x 17 rounders that i have put a ton of work into, but i am still getting failures.
I have cycled each of them with a dowel rod upwards of 1000 times, honed / deburred the feed lips, dry lube, and even tried clipping a coil off of a spring - still seeing nose-dives and rounds getting hung up on the feed lips. I don't see any bad spot-welds on the front.
I'm think i'm about ready to give up on this batch of magazines - I'm wondering if i should try ordering some more, or try a different brand.
Is there anything else i can try, or are there any brands / capacities that i should definitely avoid?

Sounds like you have done everything that could be done.
Now break out the debt card an order some CPD mags.

Not sure I only use 10 rounders for hunting and target and high cap for defense. Mid capacity mags aren't on my radar.

I recently decided to adjust two of my elanders feed lips as these 4 round mags seemed to present the round low. Prior to adjustment they worked but felt and sounded rather clunky when loading, then on a new build noticed that they were hitting the ramp pretty hard. Post lip adjustment so the rounds were presented more like the C-products the clunk sound was gone and they seem to load way smoother. I suspect that these may have been slightly deforming the bullet tip and could have been the reason I was getting one out of five shots that wouldn't print as well as the other shots on paper.

This will be kind of long winded but this is how I tweak mag feed lips.
Take 2 rounds. Brass are steel case doesn't matter.
Insert the first round and look to see how the feed lip contacts the case body. Your looking for complete contact the length if the feed lip and the bullet tip should be slightly above level.
Bend the feed lip as needed to get it to contact fully and have a slight upward angle to the bullet tip.
Once that's done. Insert the second round and repeat as needed.
The few CPD mags I had to do this too. It was always the right side feed lip that was the problem.
Hopefully this could fix your issue. I didn't buy a tool to do the work, I just used some needle nose plyer's I had laying around my work bench.

Okay, i think i've actually made some progress:
-I spent almost an hour cycling my magazines with a dowel.
-I adjusted the feed lips to get full contact with the round.
-I files down the ... guide grooves? I'm not sure what to call them - the indentations stamped into the walls of the magazine - i found that the rim of the case (that the ejector grabs on to) was getting caught on these, so i filed a small ramp in the direction of the chamber.
-And lastly, i sprayed the springs down with some Teflon dry lube. I think this made the most significant difference - the mags went from being creaky and gritty when i cycled them to being smooth and quiet.
-i down-loaded each magazine by 1-2 rounds (depending on the feel of the spring stiffness)
I manually cycled some crappy wolf ammo through each mag and out of 7x mags with 2-3 complete cycles each (full to empty) i experienced 0 nosedives and only 1 or 2 hiccups where the bolt didnt have enough force to strip the round. Since i was doing it manually, i think i might have been riding the charging handle some which could have caused the problem.
Going to take it to it to my 2-gun competition next month and see how it works live. High hopes! This would save me a good chunk of money if i could get these to work!
I'm a little concerned that shooting suppressed will dirty up the mags and cause the failures again. If thats the case, i will have to constantly clean and lube my magazines which would be annoying. I might try one of the "Adjustable BCGs" in that case, since those are supposed to help vent the gas out of the ejection port.
Hopefully this was helpful to someone else
