Your gas port is either way small or your gas block is blocking most of the gas port.
You can still get air out like you did if the block is only covering part of the gas port.
Since you have a adjustable gas block do this. Back out the adjustment screws. Leave the block where it is at. Run some weed walker string down into the gas block and see if it goes throw the port and into the bore.
If it doesn't come out into the bore, the gas block is still covering the gas port some.
You have a gas issue.
Also look around the surface where the gas block is contacting the barrel. Look for carbon, you may have a very bad gas leak.
Is the end of the gas tube where it contacts the gas key getting dirty i.e. carboned up. If not you have a very bad gas leak at the gas block.
Best way too use air to check gas block position is too close the chamber with the bcg. Leave the gas block lose and remove the adjustment screw. Shoot air into the bore from the muzzle and move the gas block around until you get the most air coming out the adjustment screw hole you can.

Just received my latest GB from Wojetk, it also has the hole he calls "a witness hole," he states that all of his newest blocks are so equipped.

In my latest GB buy Wojtek states that his gb should be offset by .265 from shoulder to properly line up. Hope this helps

He must have did a design change. All of mine are hard against the shoulder too be properly set over the gas port.

I am sorry you are having this problem. And yet it is fascinating to watch this thread develop. The gas system simply has to word but does not. The DI gas system is so simple that the problem has no right to be elusive. Fascinating!

The gas block rear set screw is centered under the gas port. Spin the gas block over so the set screw hole is over the port and check the distance from the gas block journal shoulder to the end of the gas block. Replicate that distance with the gas block oriented in the correct position.
Eta: I missed the OP has a clamp on block. You can still measure the port distance from the edge of the block.

It would appear that he must have made some changes because mine line up just like he says, now, just a tad off the shoulder. I also noticed that the closest clamp screw to the shoulder line up at the outside edge of the dimple on my barrels, for what it's worth.

I had similar issues on an AR10, ultimately the fix was to give up on 300wsm and went to 6.5 creedmoor. It happened the same, cases stuck and I had to mortar them out or use a cleaning rod. I did have a handful eject but they almost dribbled out of the gun. I tried different barrels, gas tubes, heavy buffer, heavy spring, polish chamber, adjustable block, and a few other things I am sure I am forgetting now. One thing I found is the gas tube location on the 308 rifles is supposed to be in the center of the half circle cutout, probably similar on the AR15. What I suspect was happening on mine was it was overgassed, and it was a timing issue. The bolt was unlocking to soon and the bolt was trying to eject the case while it was expanding, prior to it contracting. Or who knows, I really never got it to run; but runs now with the creedmoor barrel. Anyways, no gas symptoms could also be over gas, or timing issues.

I’d take it to a tactical shop that works on AR15.They will use a bore scope to make sure the gas block is properly aligned.

Of all the FTE / FTF issues I've read about, it seems like gas block alignment is the most common issue reported or discovered. I saw these gizmos a few years ago and wondered why I never thought of it.
For anyone assembling an upper, this is something I would highly recommend. Takes ALL the guesswork out of the equation.

I suspect the .30 cal pins can be used in the Grendel. If not, then a simple heat and shorten operation will do the trick.

Yes, it does work, you can end up with a bit more breakage on the portion you hit with your cleaning rod, but the upper portion usually drops intact. Depends how brittle the pasta is.

Simple,easy way to align a gas block.Once you have your barrel on and tightened,install your gasblock and tube.Leave the set screw,so that you can move the block.
Take a 2” length of aquarium hose or car vacuum hose(1/8”
,attatch it on the gastube through the upper. Blowing through it you’ll be able to tell when it’s aligned,then just tighten the screws.Success!

These are both great ideas I will have to try. Brilliant!
I haven't ever had an issue lining up the gas block, but I was never sure it was right until it was fired. There is always the slight doubt just because I didn't have a simple way to verify.

Over gassing can cause the problem also. I had that problem with a carbine -- ultimately had to plug and pre-drill the gas port to salvage the barrel.
