Neck shots with Berger 115 HPBT - stokesrj - 01-25-2012
I once shot a Coues Deer in Arizona with my 6.5 STW and a Berger 140 grain hunting VLD at 3,550 fps. This deer was walking away from me. I hit it at the base of the tail and took the whole spine out all the way to the neck, laying the whole body cavity open from the top. It looked like a stick of dynamite had been set off inside the deer. It had ruptured blood vessels all the way to the lower legs. Of course this is an ultrahigh velocity rifle much different than the Grendel other than the bullet diameter. However, on rib cage shots I rarely see any bloodshot other than between the layers of the shoulder meat near the bullet impact area.

No problem, I haven't drawn it in 4 or 5 years now, so hope to draw off the range as I have seen quite a few of them this last year, before they did the off the range hunts you would see them off the range all the time, not anymore, they got smart, if they hear ATV's, Trucks, etc. they will go and hide, i've watched them do it....Out elk hunting this year I snuck up within 30 yards of a 40" bull, i was trying to get my camera out to take a picture of it, no go, winded me...oh well, i did get pictures of 4 others that were within 15 yards of me and finally spotted me, but I did get some pictures.
Sorry for kind of hijacking the thread guys, but related as Oryx are hard to take down with a neck shot, this is the one I shot on Holloman, granted the gun was a Weatherby .338-378 with a 200gr Ballistic tip going almost 3600 fps:
