A5BLASTER Wrote:Only pics I could get sized right to upload.

Took a bunch more but can't get them small enough.

Go one pic of front sight and one pic of rear sight and one pic of the rifle as it will be used.

Still waiting on red dot to arrive.

Been working with these cpdefense mags and they are turning into some very good mags.

A5B:

The front sight being finger adjustable is a good thing. No clue why others don't or didn't do the same.

Not real confident about the durability but that is because of my previous experience with Leapers BUIS.

When you get some experience with that AT3, would appreciate your opinion.

Big thing I look for with the dot sights in priority is (1) their ability to zero; (2) holding the zero after being turned off then back on; (3) how well the dot can be seen in bright sun or against a light background.

A big eye opener for me was using some over snow, very light colored ground, and bright sun. The issued M-68 and my civilian Comp M2 had enough power so you could still see the dot in these bright conditions and when shooting into the sun. Less expensive civilian models were rendered unusable in the same conditions. Not enough power to see the dot. I also used a gigantic M-68 on the M-2 machinegun. Surprisingly, it actually stayed on that thing when shooting and didn't break! Way better than those iron sights on the M-2.

As for the lazer, not sure why they have one at all on the sight but hopefully it won't eat up batteries like the green one I have. That green one I have is pretty powerful and you could see the beam pretty easily to 50 yards during the day. At night it went pretty far but the beam opened up pretty quickly, too. Learned that at night the green beam worked but didn't illuminate particularly well with the naked eye. Not well enough to see clearly without NVD's. So, although fun to hip shoot at 50 yards, the battery lasted maybe thirty seconds of use! I took the thing off and it sits somewhere in the pile of 'good ideas' that I spent a fortune on over the years.

So do tell us how these things work out for you.

LR55 sight should be here friday, so I will create it's own thread

I went with it because it had such great reviews and a lifetime warrenty.

That and the one I purchased they had just introduced a new rider design and had it as a combo with a discount Friday so I got the sight, rizer, lens caps and rubber armor upgrade for 85 bucks shipped.

I went with the smaller red dot sight not the bigger on with the laser.

Just read this... I actually use a 50 yard zero on my grendel... Here are a couple screenshots from my strelok app. This data has been verified so I know it's true. The "negative" number means your poi is above poa by that much. First is the 50 yard zero and then second would be with a 100 yard zero.

got me curious so I typed in a 40 yard zero... This one gets you just a hair further for mpbr...

LR55 or 52 or any other veterans with some experience in the battle zero can correct me if I am mistaken, but the battle sight zero was implemented to minimize space needed for ranges.

It is acceptable when the underlying accuracy is 3 - 5 moa. Remember, however, that any errors in zero at 25 meters will be four times as large at 100 meters.

The folks suggesting that one sight in with iron sights for their customary optical sight 100 yard zero are giving the best advice. The holdovers and hold unders will then be the same for closer ranges and be good enough out to 200 yards.

That way practice for one adds to the muscle memory needed for the other and is one less mildly complicated set of things to deal with under stress.

JASmith... I use a zero other than 100 to maximize by mpbr... Anything past my mpbr I then have my dope charts for adjustments... the same thing has been done for decades... people that would sight in "1.5 inches high at 100" are doing the same thing as zeroing at a closer range.

The rifle will be a hd/sd gun as well as a spot and stalk thick brush and tree stand gun.

What about doing a 25 yard zero with the iron sights?

25 yards with my calculator (using 123gr ammo at 2400fps) would put you 5" high at 100 yards... topping out at 6.5" high at 160yards... then eventually dropping to 4" low at 300 yards

These point to the same spot as the scope crosshair at 20 yards. It is better than blindly point and shoot.
I have done that at a running deer at 30 yards and it did not work.
A slight tilt and you are on target. You even get a nice tilted cheek weld.

There is a possibility that we are advocating the same thing. I also use a vertical offset at 100 yards for my zero to extend the mpbr.

I do advocate using the same sight-in range and vertical offsets for all the sights one uses for a given cartridge. The actual “zero” should reflect what will work best for the expected most stressfull shooting at intermediate ranges.

I have also chased the mpbr on ballisric charts and with more than one ballistic calculator. For me, a lot of my casual shooting is done with targets that are significantly smaller than the vital zone of a deer. Hence the target size for my mpbr is smaller. That allows me to think only in terms of holdover when the target is “out yonder”.

Lil update.

16 inch AA lite barrel, PF loaded 100 grain NBT ammo, at3 reddot 50 yards, 3 shoots to find the bull then ripped off a 15 round rapid fire group.

Then popped up the irons and set them to match the dot and called it good for pigs and deer out too 200 yards.

A5B:

You really need to shoot it at 200 yards then. I seriously doubt you will be center of mass to any sort of degree you will be comfortable with.

You are using a battle sight zero and I wouldn't trust it one iota to be centered enough at 200 for a reliable kill on a game animal.

I probably will tommorw, I didn't test it today as I was fighting a gas issue with my new 20 inch GB barrel.

Turns out my gas rings in the JP bolt i keep to use with it were toast and finally gave up the ghost.

Recoil started to climb more with each shot, so I took a break from it slapped on the 16 in with the AA barrel and quickly and very early got this.

Think it might end up with a 4-16 on it and take it to range and just save the red dot and irons for when I build my next grendel with the 12 inch barrel.

If it were me, I would leave the dot sight on the rifle. Very handy for fast shots on moving targets.

Hope you leave them on at least for your 200 yard evaluation. Would be interesting to see how close you got all of them.

They will stay on it till I get the 12 inch built.

Need to run it throw my ballistics app and see what it shows the drop as for 200 and have that ready when I get to the range.

Will try for a first round hit on the 6 inch red of the steel.

I set the irons so it was pumpkin on the post with the red dot, so it should be close, will throw a 5 shot groups at 50 with it and see where it ends up before going longer distance.

The old eye's ain't what they use to be.

A5B:

Not necessarily old eyes but rather that many times things don't work out exactly like a person thinks. Short range zero's happen to be one of them.

I know what you did with the dot sight and got pretty good at it a number of years ago. However, it was not uncommon for it to be off three or four minutes despite every effort to make sure the dot was (in my case) on top of the front sight post.

Will be interested to see how close you got though.

I just did a 50 / 200 test last weekend using my 18" Odin works and American Gunner running 2424fps. I zeroed at 50 and at 200 was 2 inches high.

Didn't make it to the range today, doctor appointments got in the way and my knee is killing me today.

Will try for it tommorw.

How high are you at 100ishyrds?

Something's wrong with this setup. That round has a .450 G1 BC, and with a 2424 FPS MV and a 50 yard zero, POI at 200 yards should be 2.3" low, even at 5000 ASL.

My 22" rig spits out the 123 ELD at 2480 fps and, with a .506 G1 BC, the POI at 200 yards is 1.7" Low. (4.5" low with a 100 yard zero)

Are you sure you don't mean 2" LOW?

That's what I was thinking he meant low.

I ran mine through sterlok and it shows 2.5 inch low at 200 with the red dot sighted at 50 yards with PF loaded 100 grain NBT and my AA 16 inch barrel.
