Looks like a good candidate for a side charging bolt carrier...(and adjustable gas block WITHOUT gas tube to maximize velocity)

Might be better to get a non-adjustable bolt carrier and weld the holes shut. A spot-weld to prevent removal and you'd have a lot stronger case for being legal...

Do you really think there would be a difference in bullet velocity, fully open or through a gas tube? If there is 30 FPS less I am sure the deer will never notice.

It might be difficult to sell a barrel with the gas port welded shut. Why would I need a non-adjustable bolt carrier what ever that is?

I have shot hundreds of rounds through a BCA 16" barrel with side charger and have not seen the manual ejection effort decreasing.
I have also shot hundreds more through other AR15 and have had maybe 5% that that were EASY to eject.
Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

I meant to say non-adjustable gas block, and weld closed the pin and gas tube holes on it; then a very small spot weld to attach the gas block to the barrel.

Yes...definitely through a fully open port. I daresay even more of a loss than with it cycling a bolt carrier. The bolt carrier at least has back pressure that minimizes pressure loss behind the bullet.
How much? I don't know. You're the perfect study case opportunity as it would be easy to rig a temp block in order to measure results.
When you put hand guard on, will exhaust gases impinge upon it?

Back in the day when the M1 Carbine was hot some were converted to Pump action to meet the Regulations for Deer Hunting. Wonder if a Side Charger Receiver could be used to make a Pump action?

Dont need to weld or seal the ports on a gas block, just put it on sideways. Every thing is sealed. Just leave off the tube and it is still a single shot.

I have hanguards intalled with no GB and there is only a smoky spot on the inside of the schedule 40 pipe.

Nice looking barrel. Bought a fluted for my 6.5 Creedmoor. Wasn't sure I would like the fluting, but I ended up liking it. I ended up with another fluted on my 6mm Creedmoor.

Another option for closing off a gas block is to install a short gas tube stub upside down, so the gas tube glocks off the gas port.

possibly, it looks like the gas key has an extension on it tied to the pump

I am thinking a steel rod to go in the gas key (not attached to the gas key but attached to the pump handle) and a gas block only to limit forward travel of the pump handle might be a start. Some means to prevent twisting would be needed.
The recoil spring would close the bolt as in a standard AR.

maybe, but i dont think the spring would lock the bolt, it may follow the pump, and not have enough momentum.

Many people seem to be concerned with sealing the gas port hole. Why?
It is not sealed in a standard AR.
I have been shooting these with nothing over the hole and they work fine.

Why not seal it if there is no use for it? Or, more holes could be added to balance the gas leak, it will probably still work just fine.
