Most States really frown on hunting suppressed...i.e....it's totally illegal. I have heard of a few exceptions to it, depending on some recent decisions. In many European countries, they prefer for you to go suppressed, and there are little to no regulations on the purchase and use of suppressors.

I think Texas has admitted they have no control over the hog population and will do whatever it takes. They even allow shooting them from helicoptors now.

It is only unlawful to hunt game animals with suppressors in Texas. Non-game animals are good to go. I have been stopped several times by game wardens while hunting suppressed. I honestly answered all their questions, showed them my paperwork and went about my way.

I thought the same thing. I was under the impression that "Hunting rules" only applied to game animals. I thought (but am probably wrong) you could pretty much do or use whatever you want for hogs. Kind of like interactive target shooting ...... LOL.
I almost wish we had hogs up here in Washington. Although I've never hunted them, it sounds like it would be good sport. And, I LOVE bacon.

Year round, whenever I get the chance, though I haven't been this year at all. Shot a few "targets of opportunity", but thats it. I actually need to renew my small game license.

This is covered on Pg 55 of the Texas Outdoor Annual if anyone needs the reference. "Means and Methods, Firearms, Non-game Animals (non protected): Any lawful firearm, pellet gun, or other air gun is legal".
I would recommend you not have even a legally harvested game animal in your possession if you are hunting with a suppressor. It leaves too much to question- trust me! I had a buddy that was stopped and was very lucky that it was by the only lenient game warden in the state. He honestly didn't do anything illegal but he could have been forced to spend thousands to prove it (if he could at all).

Careful what you wish for.
They are fun to hunt but they are harder to get rid of than fleas on a stray dog. It's amazing what they can destroy and how little time it takes them to do it.

I agree on our gmae wardens. Given what power they have in the state, I never even brought a can just on case. I might change that now though

I hunt in Alabama. Here the forests are VERY dense. Hunt deer out of a ladder or tripod stand. I hunt hogs both out of a stand with bait, or with dogs on the ground. I use a bow, handgun, rifle or shotgun. In other words what's available and fits the situation. I'm 70yrs old this month and prefer a stand. Whatever hunting is available just gives me a "woodie" getting a shot or not. The woods allows me to enjoy nature and get a little peace......
