The reason I want a 6.5 Grendel bolt gun is I already reload 223/5.56 and 6.5 Grendel. Of those two cartridges I prefer the 6.5 Grendel. I don't want to load another cartridge and the 6.5 Grendel bolt gun would give me a mild shooting varmint or target bolt action. I don't currently own a centerfire bolt action and actually desire a 6.5 Grendel bolt gun to a 243, 22-250, 260 or 6.5 Creedmoor.

Very low recoil, with most of the performance of a .260/6.5 Creedmoor/6.5 Lapua. It's enough for pretty much everything on the American continent except the big bears.

+1 on vascar and bwaites.
Younger shooters will have better shooting discipline with lower recoil/muzzle blast. Adults will also have higher hit percentages on targets and game with a pleasant shooting rifle Also, this chamber normally shoots most every bullet from 75-140 grains well. Not many calibers I've ever shot will do that. And there's the bad disease that we have causing us to never be satisfied with what's sufficient. We NEED more!!

For me, I have been looking to have a bolt version of anything I have in semi-auto. Haven't fully accomplished that yet, but it's on the wish list.
Semi's require a lot more lube and cleaning.... if in a pinch and have to neglect/need something less maintenance....

Ok. I get it and thanks for the schoolin. I must truthfully admit that the idea of a Grendel bolt gun is really growing on me since I don't care much for 223 in that type of rifle and, as stated, the versatility of the cartridge is alluring. I'm putting the finishing touches on my first Grendel today and if it performs anywhere near as good as what I've been hearing from guys on this forum and others it's about to be my new favorite AR by a long shot.
To turn a bolt gun into a Grendel I assume I could buy some cheap ADL short action and have the bolt and barrel changed out, add a mag system and stock/chassis and id be good to go. Or, is there more to it? I don't mean to jack your post OP. Any further questions and I'll post my own so we don't get off YOUR topic.

There are several gunsmiths who are looking at making semi-custom Grendels using the Rem 700 and other actions. That semi-production route might lead to some savings because the 'smith can leverage economies of scale.
For the DIY individual, the Savage Axis or preferably, one of the Model 10 series rifles can be readily converted with a barrel and PPC bolt face. There is a good handful of barrel makers that produce drop-in barrels for the Savage. Some also stock Grendel-chambered barrels.
The main kicker is to be sure you know what chamber / throat they are willing to furnish and that that fits your desires. Some routinely use a reamer cut to SAAMI specs, almost all will likely custom ream for the chamber you want. There are threads both here on on the Savage Shooters Forum that discuss conversion from another cartridge to the Grendel.

It shoots great if you click on the pic of the gun and scroll right there are 2 groups the really small one was the first 5 rounds I put threw it with factory ammo 123 amax and the larger group was 10 shots with some hand loads with 107 smks

^ In my case, the answer is efficiency. I am limited to shooting 300yds, so I can't see burning 1,000yds worth of powder. Pluss the Grendel combines a very accurate case with one of the most ballistically proficient bullets available. I have a 260Rem, but it spends most of it's time in the safe lately. The 308Win came about because the 30/06 was more than needed for many applications, and the 308-1 1/2"Barnes evolved from the 308Win. The Grendle is plenty deadly on deer for my 300yd limitation. In 2013, the smallest group ever shot in competition at 100yds, was shot with a "30 Gerndel".

I agree with the reasons everyone has mentioned for the benefits of the Grendel as bolt gun. In fact, my best friend/shooting buddy and I are gathering components for a Grendel benchrest rifle. We view it as a versatile cartridge with a great lineage, competing in both group and score matches. We love the challenge of going a different route. Besides, we can always rebarrel it if we can't work out a competitive load.
