Go.

In your case, I think the only convincing argument would be if you reload 6mm projectiles are cheaper. Other than that, quality factory ammo is the same price between the two. They'll both hit targets way out there, although the 6 ARC will be flatter with less wind drift. I forsee this cambering to become very popular though because 1, Hornady has a recent history of creating successful competition cartridges, 2, the DoD is already using it. If some special group in the DoD is using it then there will be a lot of buyers influenced by that.

EDIT: I'll also say I don't put any stock in how much kinetic energy a bullet has for hunting situations. The construction of the bullet is much more important. If an ELD-M will expand at 1600 fps, you gain an additional 100 yards of hunting range with the 6mm ARC.

Dawg, no no!!! stay with what you've got.
These are not the droids you are looking for...
(at least until after I get my chance to pick out a barrel and get it...) LOL!!!!! Cool

Lol, what the hell is the benefit for me to try and convince you to try something new? If you don't like it, don't like it, no one else cares.

Chill out. That's just how rabid ask for data.

Dawg honestly knowing where you hunt and what you hunt, you would be waisting money getting a 6mm ARC. Unless you wanted to put together another pistol for hunting from the climber.

It is also cool that there are now a bunch more manufacturers making BCGs for 6.5 Grendel.

The gas block on the 18" looks like it's practically at the muzzle!

I have 2 6.5 Grendel rifles. I will be interested in adding a 6mm ARC in the future. Cheaper projectiles, less recoil, potentially more velocity for a given weight, should be much better ballistics given equal weight projectiles, ect.

My 6.5 G is a lower recoil and cheaper to shoot alternative to my 6.5x55. A 6mm ARC would be the same compared to my .243. I dont need a .243 and a 6.5x55, but I wanted both. Big Grin

Terrible way to ask for data. If you want data, read first, ask questions to fill in the gaps later. Tramping into a thread and telling everyone you're not interested, but they should try and sell you on the idea anyway ain't a great way to pursue your education.

6mm ARC - am4966 - 06-05-2020

I’ll have a 12” Grendel and at some point I’ll get a 6mmARC with a 18”-20” barrel for target shooting and hunting if I decide to use it for that.

I’m excited since the 6mmARC will hopefully bring more after market items like better mags, more bolt options and hopefully will bring the price of ammo down since there will be another round that’s competing for market share?

I know with mags some of them work and some not so much, but wouldn’t it be nice if OK, Lancer, Lantac, Magpul or whatever mfg that makes quality mags. made a mag that worked flawlessly and it wasn’t a crap shoot or you didn’t have to pay $18 for a 5rnd mag or $25 for a 26rnd mag and the price dropped 30%-%40

But I don’t think if you’ve got a Grendel you really don’t need a 6mmARC. But we know you will WANT one lol!

You know the answer.

It’s a discussion forum. I will participate any way I see fit until a moderator says I can’t. If I know ‘55 he will make it clear to me if I reply what I really want.

I have read every thread about this new round and still havnt seen any specific data, just generalities really.

I’m really wondering why everyone is so excited. It’s a Grendel light.

Like A5 eluded to, it may not be for me but you will Not keep me from commenting.

Thank to the guys who attempted to sell me on it. I just don’t see where it benefits me.

If I had a place to shoot beyond 700 yds then maybe.

I already hunt with 100 nosler bt. So I really don’t need another round built for that weight class.

Y’all have fun with it.

6mm ARC - Dude1each - 06-05-2020

I’m wondering if Karl and Ian will consider this caliber for their WWSD2020 project now. I’m pretty sure that is what Stoner would do.

BTF said it best; the 6.5 Grendel is a hunting round that target shoots, the 6 ARC is a target round that hunts. Bill A. developed the Grendel first and foremost as an AR round for hunting whitetails. The fact that it has long range potential is almost a side benefit.

The 6 ARC was developed specifically as a designated marksman round in the AR. The fact that it stays supersonic at 1,000 in standard pressure is super cool. I have my doubts that the cartridge will ever be as versatile as the Grendel. Bullet selection in 6.5mm is too deep. Others have concerns about the capability of .243 projectiles:

"However, the .243 Winchester has limitations when used to hunt deer and other Class 2 game. The main limitation being the .243 bore size restricts the maximum weight of hunting bullets to about 105 grains. The .243 Winchester cartridge somewhat compensates for the bullet weight limitation by driving its bullets at high velocity."

I might wind up with a 6 ARC at some point, probably in a bolt gun. I'm in no rush though.

How does the SAAMI chamber compare to the 6.5 Grendel chambers? Compound taper? Grendel 2? Like LBC? Something else?

Just stirring the pot Wink

That's the elephant in the room. Because nobody is talking about it that I can find.

Been on the 6mm ARC Facebook page the last few days researching real world velocity data for 24 and 12 inch barrel lengths as well.

For me and my useage, the juice ain't worth the squeese. Now if I didn't have a cz grendel and 2 short barreled grendels already. Then yea I would still be in the hunt for the 6mm ARC.

The velocity's I was able to find for a 11.5 inch shooting the match 6mm ARC ammo from hornady, was the same as my 120 gold dot handloads from my 12 and 12.5 inch grendels.

The velocity's I was able to find for 24 inch rifles compared to my 123 eld-m and 129 ablr handloads, wasn't enough for me to justify getting a long barreled 6mm arc.

True it was supersonic to 1000 yards but so are my 123 eld-m and 129 ablr handloads. I don't compete and shooting at a grand is just for fun for me, so no need for me to speed more money to get something new that does what I already have.

I still like it and will still keep up with it and still love to see more advancement of the grendel case concept and it does have advantages in drop and drift. Just not enough for my usage to warrant the expense to get into a new round.

SAAMI print for 6mmARC shows a standard freebore and leade arrangement. If memory serves, the freebore is 0.090 and the leade angle is a standard 1.5°.

Good job on opsec! I didn't hear a peep about any of it until SAAMI specs went public.
