We have a number of things going on. 1) government purchases are huge, for the moment. That takes a lot of the product. 2) speculators who are buying everything hoping to make a profit. 3) large speculators, who for some reason seem to be rich democrats (maybe tipped off that that this was coming), are buying whole production runs. Either they are hoping to make big profits (3X) or they are stockpiling.

I was speaking to the owner of a reloading company yesterday and he informed me that his distributors are telling him that there is 300,000 pounds of powder stuck in customs right now. I can't find any info to back that up at the moment though.

We were expecting a huge shipment to be available in April. Mostly Korean ammo and components.

This morning I lucked out and was able to buy several
cases of ammo. On the way home I stopped at the gas
station and this drop dead gorgeous blond was filling
up her car at the next pump.
She looked at the ammo in the back of my car and said
in a very sexy voice, "I'm a big believer in barter, big boy.
Would you be interested in a trade of sex for ammo?"
I thought it over for a few seconds and responded,
"Well, just what kind of ammo have you got to trade?"

There are people everywhere who won't admit it in a casual conversation but they are stocking up on ammo like never before.... we are a country preparing for war. Sorry if you don't like that but the fed agencies are and civilians are alike.
Here's link to a youtube "prepper" that is discussing this issue, who I actually am a fan of. This is just one example that demonstrates the mindset of the patriots in this country, who do not want to see any type of armed conflict, but are preparing just in case. I am not a doom and groom kind of guy, but when you look around and see how this country has diminished in the last 10 years and extrapolate that into the future another 10 years, things cannot remain status quo without some kind of fundament transformation to our society.

I’m not saying people are going to riot in the street and put ammo supplies in action if there is a financial meltdown. I am saying that there is a lot of concern on the street and ammo stocking brings stability in several ways; as a kind of check and balance to abuse of powers, it brings a certain level of reassurance and self reliance where people can protect and lookout for themselves in the event of a societal breakdown, it is also a means of hedging wealth against the dollar where people could use it as a form of currency in a barter system if the dollar folds.
Take your pick but ammo stocking is a symptom of a shaky country....

A brick of .22 ammo is worth $50!

I had thought about coming off of some of mine, but shipping ammo sucks. I went to a local show here last weekend and it was bringing 50-65 dollars a brick in my area. I kind of felt dirty just thinking about selling it for that much. Though for $250 a brick: I'd sell most of mine and just take a bath later.LOL

A few days ago both Graf & Midway had Eley Tenex and Match EPS, Not today.
Graf still has .223 Lapua 69gr Scenars (not the new Scenar-L).

Seeds have nothing to do with .22 Long Rifle or any conspiracy theory involving the current shortage of .22 Long Rifle.
Do not pull this stuff on the Grendel forum again.

I guess if you're going to spend money on rimfire ammo at today's prices, tenex is a real value now.Do any of you guys shoot with .22LR just for the sake of saving a bunch of cash vs. grendel?
How many of you guys have an Anschutz target rifle?

I just took a look at Midway and I believe they are totally out of .22 Rimfire. However, the prices they are listing, despite being out, isn't any different than before this current scare.
So, maybe that top end Ely stuff was very expensive to begin with? Not sure.

For budget sanity and target practice, I shoot more .22 than anything else. I have still been able to find it in local stores, but you must be persistent, and make the rounds to all of the stores that carry it. You have to talk to the folks behind the counter to find out when they expect the next shipment, and you need to learn in general when the store gets restocked. Be there when it does.
It's funny to see a bunch of hungry dogs around the ammo counter, but it means that the clerks don't have to even stock the shelves - well, not much.
For a while, I was worried that some ammo wasn't getting manufactured, so I was checking lot numbers. I can tell you CCI is still making ammo - at least as of January. Also, prices in retail seem to have remained remarkably stable for .22.
