Magpul Hunter American stock - TNhuntsman - 01-02-2019

Came across this stock for the Ruger American rifles, anyone know if it will fit the Ruger American predator 6.5G since it seems to be the only one that uses AR15 mags? Looks like a nice option to the factory predator stock.

I asked magpul about it and they said it will fit but you will lose the ar15 mag by going with that stock.

They come with a 308 pmag and magpul says they have a 223 pmag in the works for it. The polymer MDT do not work in it without remilling some of the inside of the action so the mag can seat correctly too feed.

Metal AI mags will work with this stock and primal rights sells a 6.5 BR adaptor that will work with their mags and is said to feed grendel as well.

If you want too keep the original stock or use a boyd's stock you can get a bottom metal refit from cdi that will let you use metal AI mags as well.

Hope this helps sir.

I have been reading all reports on this stock for some time. Folks seem to really like it. I haven’t handled it yet.

I have three for the 10/22’s and love them. I considered one for the RARR is 300 that I have but for magazine issues. Out of the fry pan into the fire as I wanted it to get away from mag problems assocoiated with the Ruger rotary plastic crap.

Far too Many problems associated with the Boyds to buy them either...

I have a HOWA 6.5G. Nothing from MP for thai model. Not many options that dont out cost the rifle itself... not really a chassis fan as this is a hunting rifle and all that metal is darn cold and hard. (Noisy)

Im actually considering a RA in Creed and then this stock. Its ergos are simply bang on for my wants.

Thanks for the input, so this stock will work with the Grendel, just have to buy the conversion kit from primal rights to use the AICS short action magazine that comes with the stock.

From everything I was told by magpul and primal rights it will work

The way I read it, the conversion kit ONLY works with the Accuracy International AICS mags, i.e. the metal ones.

I’m committed to it now. “Bud’s” has the stock for $217 and I just ordered 2 conversion kits from Primal Rights to convert a couple of AI mags I already had laying around. If the Grendel doesn’t pan out, I’ll yank it and just shove my RAP 243 in there instead and eat the conversion kits.

Should have it up and running by the end of the week, if everything comes in on time. Will post a follow up, when/if that happens.

Good deal sir let us know how it works out for you. This setup is still on the backburner for my custom rig for target play.

Ahh, I see that the Hunter American stock ships with a Magpul 7.62 mag and not an AICS mag but has an AICS magwell to except AICS mags for different calibers. You'd think that they would just ship with AICS mags but I guess it makes since that Magpul stock would ship with Magpul mags.

Wonder if there is any conversion possible for the Magpul mags? Some kind of internal block and trim the follower? Or maybe I missed that part...

I'm not sure it's possible with the pmags. They way they make the follower it uses guide rails built into the mag to keep it centered.

Put maybe the 7.62 pmags are diffrent, I'm just going of memory of the ar15 223 pmags.

Accidently deleted my post, tried to edit it and while scrolling hit the big yellow delete button. Sucks it's huge and in the middle of the screen, should be more discreet.

Anyways, I will be watching to see how the stock works out for you, since we can't use the supplied Magpul mag, what's the best option? AICS .308, is that the one the primal rights is designed for?

Gonna sell my .308 hunting rifle and get a Ruger American Predator, really like for this stock to be a good option.

From what I can tell, yes.

Here’s a video on the conversion.

Primal rights confirmed via email the 6BR conversion kit is for the .308 AICS magazine.

Primal rights has a YouTube video up of them running I think it was 10 rounds of 6.5 grendel throw a 700 action and a aics mag.

Bought a RAP 6.5G from GunBroker today, will be waiting for pics and feedback from Harpoon1 on the Magpul stock to see if I need to look at ditching the factory stock. The Magpul stock in FDE sure looks good though.

Magpul Hunter American stock - Harpoon1 - 01-08-2019

Just ran another 30-40 rounds through mine today. I built up the rear top of the mag with some aluminum foil tape to take away some of the fore and aft rocking of the mag. It definitely helped but, its a temporary bandaid solution, at best. Looking at it some more, the feed ramps are pretty steep and very roughly cut, about what you’d expect for a $400 rifle. Maybe cleaning them up and polishing them some would help. Kind of hit or miss with which bullets feed better than others.

FWIW, I’m having the same feeding problems with my RAP 243 as well. Even with the AICS “style” single stack mags. It’s not as frequent as the Grendel but, some bullets just don’t want to feed and plowing nose first right into feed ramp and jamming up, and the harder you push, the more they don’t budge. Very irritating. To the point I actually broke the stock on the 243 today doing battle with it, so, got another Magpul from “Buds” this afternoon. Rolleyes

I've polished feedramps on one of my AR15s and it improved the feeding issue could be the same with these.

So the factory stock can be broken with some effort, is the Magpul stock that much better built? Handled the RAP 6.5G last week at bud's gun shop and the stock felt ok but doesn't sound like it's as strong as it should be. What is the weight difference of the rifle between the 2 stocks?

Magpul claims 3.3 lbs for the Hunter. I just weighted the RAP..............1.87 lbs! Oh my. Have to say, I’m not thrilled about that. Although I don’t really plan to hunt with either one, picked up a Savage 110 “Lightweight” Storm 6.5 CM that is only 5.7 lbs, so, I guess it’s mostly academic.

Haha, you did a number on that stock!

So the Magpul stock weighs about 1.5 pounds more than the factory stock, the RAP is supposed to weigh 6.6 lbs, plus magpul hunter puts it at about 8 lbs, add scope and mount and it would be at almost 10 lbs. Not much lighter than my AR15 grendel (10 lbs with bipod), was hoping to keep it under 9 but I don't like the look of that stock failure.

I wouldn’t lose any sleep over the stock failing, it’s been said I “could break an anvil”! Cool

Well, that Savage at 5.7 lbs was the lightest I could find, without going custom and spending a small fortune. No, it’s not a Grendel but it can shoot the same bullets, at about the same speeds if you desire. Planning on the Nosler 129 ABLR’s and moderate speeds. Just a thought.
