thought I would try a 22 Grendel as a hog gun . I purchased a barrel blank from Baldwin's that was not chambered or gas port drilled ,purchased a PTG reamer , and started working on loads and decided to try some of the loads from 6mm AR website using R15 and a 82 grain Berger . I am really happy with this combo , 250 lbs hogs are dropping in there tracks . The accuracy is amazing . Can't wait to try it out on some coyotes . thx ! Mark

What bullets are you using on hogs Mark? I know I’m biased but the 22 Grendel interest me a lot more than the 224 Valkrye or 22 Nosler.

The 22 Grendel is a really great round ! my buddy has a 224 Valkrye that shoots nice but I think my 22 Grendel is more accurate . I built mine with a 2+ longer gas port and it really functions great .

I built a 22 LBC on a Howa Mini. W/ 22" barrel and 50gr Barnes TTSX I easily got 3500fps and didn't really do any other load development. I only shot one hog with it, 185 yards or so, shoulder shot and the 140lb sow dropped in her tracks. I think 3600 or more is acheivable with a bolt gun but haven't gotten around to load development yet.

I have a 24 " 7 twist barrel ! I used the 224 LBC reamer from PTG . I need to check velocity , powder charge is 27.7 grains of R15 and 82 grain Bergers Hornady brass CCI BR primer .

Very cool. I know there are variables involved but what is the estimated barrel life?
Also, will a 7 twist be too fast for a barnes 62 ttsx? Im thinking since the monos are harder they should stay together just fine with the fast twist.

I am not sure on barrel life ! shot some 70gain Nosler RFD in mine also and accurracy was great was using some CFE 223 and getting 3200 fps . I tried the 82 grain Bergers using Robert Whittley's load data , started with less than suggested powder charge and got up to 27.7 and stopped there . Acccurracy is great and it Kills hogs really good .

What are you guys using for sizer & seater dies? Needing to order dies for a 22 Grendel I'm getting ready to chamber for one of my Mini actions. Have been looking at Redding 6.5 Grendel FL Type S bushing die for a sizer, using 6mm & 22 bushings to step down the 6.5 neck. But what about a seater?
I bought a 250ct bag of Starline 6.5 Grendel brass to use for this project - anyone got info on which dia bushing or bushings I should try for use with the 22 Grendel using Starline brass?

88gr ELD-M should be a great bullet for this as well when killing things.
The 75gr A-AMAX is another if they are still being made.
Less Time of Flight for movers is something I think makes a lot of sense for a hog hunter.

I'm using a 6 PPC and then 22 PPC Hornady sizing die for the case forming and then the Hornady 22 PPC die set for reloading. It's worked just fine. You could use your chamber reamer and make a simple in-line Wilson type arbor press bullet seater too, I've done that a few times and it works well also.

The set of 6 RAT dies I have were made by Hornady. They work OK, but the seater is sometimes a PITA, as the little clip that holds the sliding sleeve in the seater body will sometimes let the sleeve slip by & fall out of the die body. I suppose it's only fair to say that they're a bargain at the price point, but I'd like to have something better that addresses the issues I've had with them, and still at a fair price. I used to buy Forster dies for almost everything I load for - still like their Ultra Mic seater better than Reddings comp seater. However, when I bought a Forster 6 Dasher FL die, I got a lemon, and it's worse after I sent it back to them. So I went with Troy Newlon's sizer die blanks, and had been buying a blank seater sleeve from Forster - along with the correct dia seater stem - and using a finisher reamer to cut the leaded steel, free machining sleeve. Would need to call them to see if they still sell these parts, and if so, that would solve the 22 Grendel seater issue.
Having said all that, going with a Hornady 22PPC die set would be a heckuva lot less expensive & quicker - just need to get some Grendel brass sized down to work as a 22 Grendel, then check loaded neck dia to see if the Hornady 22PPC FL sizer will give adequate neck tension with the Starline brass without over-working it.

The Hornady 22 ppc die will overwork the brass a tad as I think it is set up for a tighter neck. I was planning on honing my sizer die out a few more thou in the neck to get it perfect.

Id be more inclined to use the 50gr TTSX. 3500 or more FPS would be mighty flat shooting to any distance youll shoot at night and there would be no holdover to 300+ yards.
