I have a new Satern cut rifled barrel - jurassic - 04-15-2016
I couldn't resist, Satern has barrels available to buy, in stock. I have a standard type profile one so I thought I would try an 18" heavy, .873 at the muzzle. I've never built a rifle with such a large profile barrel so I have some questions.
The gb diameter is .875, with a lopro version can I still use a normal gas tube? Any recommendations on uppers, I've had good success with Mega both forged and billet, but thought I might try something different. I've never glued a barrel in but because of the barrel weight I may do so on this one. Any thoughts?
Before anyone brings it up, let's avoid the whole debate about barrel chambers and your feelings on Satern in general please. 😎

I went with an adjustable, for function as well as having read the gas port is oversized.
Rather than gluing or blue Loctite consider using something specific to the application:
Loctite 609 Retaining Compound, General Purpose, Green Color (made to fill cylindrical spaces)
or
Loctite Green 620 High Temperature Retaining Compound
These are for loose tolerance press fit bearings and such.

Green Loctite is what I had in mind. I use it on gas blocks and tubes since I have terrible luck getting ones that fit snugly. I had not read about the gas port being oversize, I'll make sure to measure and share the results. What should it be on an 18" midlength?

From a post back in November 2015:
"The biggest consideration is the MLGS gas port, which is too larger at .094" on an 18" pipe. That's simply way too big, should be .076"."

I pulled out the Mitutoyo to check and the battery is dead, but you guys are right a 3/32 punch fits the hole. Never thought to ask. Looks like I'll be buying an adjustable gas block, or sending the barrel back. I seem to have read somewhere a .875 adjustable gas block does not fit under most free float rails unless it was designed for a 308 size rifle, they're too tall.

There are essentially 2 different barrel types made by Satern. Their cut barrels are sold as Satern brand. They also have their Liberty barrels, which are button rifled. The cut rifled barrels tend to be more accurate, and are correspondingly more expensive. The Brownells barrels are the Liberty barrels, afaik, as are the AR Stoners, sold by MidwayUSA.

I have this barrel as well and actually returned my SLR gas block because it wouldn't even fit my SLR rail...so, make sure you pay attention to the schematic they have posted. It looks like it will fit but after I talked to them they said it wouldn't. I'm stuck now trying to find an adjustable .875 gas block that will fit a rail. Other than that my build will be complete. Any suggestions for the OP and myself?

Try BTE, Battle Tested Equipment. They've made some that worked very well for my setup. I've got both a .986 and a .750 with low profile adjustable from them. Fit under my UTG slim profile hand guard is excellent.

You can email or call and the owner will gladly try to work with you. Before he made the low profiles, he modified one of the Rail equipped blocks to a Low Profile for someone I know.

This might do the trick for you, if you don't mind the set screw.
I don't own a suppressor, but most folks I hear say "YES!" to adjustable gas blocks. The suppressors are quite hard on BCG's and create significant back pressure. An adjustable gas block allows you to cut that back to a manageable level.

From what I've read everyone is saying what you said in regard to running suppressed. Thanks again for everything, I'm excited about this gas block!

Is there anyone who could make a standard lopro gas block with an undersized port that could be drilled, or machined to a known good size for this length barrel and gas length?
I bought the Troy .875 lopro gas block, I'm sure it will fit under just about any hand guard. I'm going to try it first to see how bad it's overgrassed.
