    What if . . . ?

D.C. Man Won't Face Gun Charges For Shooting Pit Bull Attacking Boy, By Andrea Noble, The Washington Times, May 19, 2013 (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/...-pit-bull-att/) --- "Authorities last week made an agreement not to prosecute a Northwest D.C. man who used his unregistered handgun to kill a pit bull in order to stop it from mauling a child in his neighborhood. As part of the agreement, [Defendant], 39, was required to pay a $1,000 fine, but will not have criminal charges filed against him for the three unregistered firearms and the ammunition that investigators found in his possession, said Ted Gest, a spokesman for the office of the attorney general. 'We took it into account that he saved this boys life.' Mr. Gest said. . . ."

How To Survive a Mass Shooting [in a gun-free zone, when a good guy with a gun is only 13 minutes away], By John Matthews, FoxNews.com, June 10, 2013 (http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2013/...mass-shooting/) --- "No one ever thinks they are going to be involved in a mass shooting, but if last week's senseless killings in Santa Monica demonstrated one glaring commonality, it's this: victim after victim said they did not know what to do. Some simply were lucky and survived, while others tragically did not. . . . This latest incident in California lasted 13 minutes and covered dozens of blocks. . . . An armed homicidal maniac bent on killing [unarmed humans], armed with multiple weapons . . . always has the advantage over an unarmed [helpless] individual. . . . Mass shootings like the attack in Santa Monica [Newtown, Aurora, Tucson, Columbine] are an American tragedy. Hopefully, we can learn lessons from past events which will help up to survive in the future."

All of which prompts the question, What if an illegally-armed Citizen, witnessing this attack shot the shooter, and stopped this massacre, early on? How much would the Court fine him/her, for saving lives?

Well, everyone knows that criminals and animals have more rights and legal protections than the "average joe" walking around minding his own business. If it supposedly took place in California, I'd say the sky is the limit.
