CA's 11% tax on "firearms" stuff will kick in on July 1, supposedly

We had a thread going on this topic back toward the beginning of the year it seems to have disappeared when the old site went pear shaped. It's a new 11% tax added to all new firearm, FA precursor parts (unfinished receivers), and ammunition.

It's a very weird law because It's not a straightforward tax to the consumer but rather the tax burden is on the manufacturers of said items. It's described in this short article:

    Says in there:

The 11% tax is not a direct sales tax on consumers. Instead, it is levied on the industry. However, due to the tight margins within the industry, this tax is expected to be passed down to consumers in the form of higher prices. Essentially, although it’s not a direct tax on purchases, consumers will end up bearing the cost, making firearms and related items even more expensive.

It's enough to make your head explode from rage, but aside from that, I don't know how the state plans to enforce it. They said it's a tax on "the industry" here. I guess the law calls out the manufacturers as the taxed entities.

Lawmakers from other states are already pushing back with a new bill that would ban (at the federal level) additional taxes on firearms, etc. Too bad it's not expected to pass.
