    First Grendel

    Hey horde,

John got me hooked up, so I can see pictures now. I just finished my first grendel build with a Shilen barrel from Midway. It seems to shoot the factory Hornady stuff pretty well, but it wouldn't group with H335 for crap. I was afraid I had wasted a good bit of money on the barrel, but after putting together some loads with Benchmark, I got a couple 5/8" groups (3 rounds) at 100 yds. Feeling quite a bit better now.

    Pics to follow.

    Welcome to the board!

I have no problem with factory if it shoots well. At $18-19/box i have a hard time justifying the time spent reloading. As long as i can get it for that price i wont reload until i get the urge to switch to all lighter copper pills.

Thanks dawg. I can't argue much on the economics. A single round using used brass is certainly cheaper than factory, but I end up spending way more than I save. Chasing smaller groups by tweaking loads is a bit addictive, though.

Welcome. What loads are you using with H335? Do you have the reloading handbooks or any data?

It was 120 gr Sierra ProHunter. I ball parked the load from Hodgdon data (turns out what I came up with was exactly what Sierra gave me later). Best group was 1-3/4" at 100 yds. Benchmark gave me 0.52". Now, I have to admit, I had the bullets pretty snug to the lands on that first go-round.

At any rate, I've got access to Hornady's current manual and the two Grendel books are on order.
