    Norwegian Grendel builder

    Hello, I'm Thomas.
Currently building a Grendel on a Sako 6 PPC action.
Will use it for small game (grouse mostly), but also deer.

The aim of the project is to recreate my old Sako Vixen 6mm-223 rifle, but this time with more power as the 6-223 lead to quite a few running deer that had to be retrieved with the dog.

    The parts so far:
    Sako 6 PPC action (name S491 ???)
SS barrel of gunsmith's choice. Likely 18" and thin.
    A-tec Carbon02 silencer
    Hi-Tech specialities syntethic stock

    Fitting a bipod spigot
Sidemounted flush sling studs (WWII style for a close hug when skiing with rifle across chest)
    Cheekrest
    Likely machine/ fit picatinny bases

    Ceracoat for ease of maintenance.

Lapua cases, will be shooting 100 or 123 Amax.
Powder not yeat decided, looking for max V0 and "good enoug" precision.

Velkommen! Sounds like a fun project. The SAKO Vixen is a great little rifle. This is going to be very nice.

Check the reamer you will use, as we have had issues with some CIP ones in Europe. It has been identified and brought to CIP's attention.

If you have a long COL allowable magazine, then no big deal. Not sure what the PPC magazine will allow for length.

      Thanks for the heads-up.
I believe there's only a very few reamers in-country and most are delivered by Pacific Tool (???).

      I'm stuck with 58mm COAL (2.284")

            Velkommen til horde!

Look forward to hearing progress on your build. I would strongly recommend Manson reamer if planning on staying with SAAMI/CIP spec.

ETA: Nice video. What scope was that? Range of shot?

Thanks guys, the reamer specs was valuable input which I will talk to my gunsmith about.
I currently use a S&B PMII 3-20x50 scope, P4 Fine reticle. The turret have been modified/butchered with coarse hand tools, hence the different look(I just filed away the interfering LT edge).

I'm kind of wary about posting range in order to avoid debates about ethics, but it is nothing spectacular. It is all there, sound report and deer filmed through first focal plane MRAD reticle for those that want to calculate.

Thanks guys! So far this forum has proven very useful to (and money saving) with heads-up and tips in directions I had not considered.

The build has now passed the point of no return, a Lilja barrel was selected.

When I lived in Colorado, most of the slopes wouldn't let you ski with a rifle across your chests.
