  • New to the 6.5 Grendel

    Hello All!!

I'm new to this site and to the "6.5 Grendel." But I"m not new to shooting or reloading.

After about a year of research, (sorting through the BS that surrounds these two cartriges) and following this forum and a 6.8spc forum trying to decide on which cartridge I wanted to shoot and load for; I have decided on the "6.5 Grendel." My primary interests surround long range shooting and this cartridge appears to me, to be better suited to the task. I look forward to seeing all of you around the forums!

Welcome Bill. This is a low key forum, not alot of angst or BS and many helpful people. IMHO you made the right choice... Kevin

Welcome aboard, Bill. Right there with you. I joined in January after the same research. The guys on this forum can and will answer EVERY question you might think of about the Grendel. Thanks to them, I learned enough to start my build. Again, welcome.

Welcome. What's your definition of long-range? What part of the country do you live in? Do you have access to ranges or shooting areas where distance can come into play?

Thank you all, for the welcome!!!

Long range for me is 1000+ yrds, I live in Southern Oregon, no I do not shoot a "Shooting Range" so to speak but I like to shoot from a landing (logging outfits use these to process timber) to a gong hanging up in the trees. Or just shoot at spot on the road that's about a mile away, and watch for a puff of dust.

Oregon east of the coast has some wide open spaces. No need for long range shooting ranges. You'll probably want at least a 24" select match barrel if you don't plan to hump it around on a hunt ever. Get an adjustable gas block and a beefy upper to handle the heavier pipe, and the rest is your discretion.

Congrats! You chose well! Just be sure and keep in mind that building the rifle is half the fun, so be sure to not rush thru it and enjoy the process. Good luck!
