    Newby From St Loo

Greetings all, I'm finally writing a post after joining and reading here for several weeks. I currently have a CZ-527 in 6.5G I really like, but I'm still playing with loads and trying to figure out what it likes best. I started handloading in the early 80's, and still do , but it's not as much fun as it used to be, and now I just do bulk batches and 50 rifle loads at a time.

I've been a PD Dispatcher, then an officer, then a trainer, and spent the last 20 years in various security roles. Now I'm retired and using my time for more enjoyable things, and I see the 6.5G as a challenge. Never one to skimp on components, I bought a half-dozen bullets to play with, and I have at least five dozen powders on the shelf, so it will be a matter of picking a few and seeing where that leads me.

Like many here, I like tinkering with a variety of calibers, and some may know me as Papajohn from the MarlinOwners forum. I still love my Marlins and currently own leverguns in 22, 218 Bee, 32-20, 30-30, 357, 44 Magnum, 38-55, and 45-70. My club range offers a plate range out to 400 yards, but I'm not shooting that far yet, I need to isolate loads for my long-legged guns before I try that. I have a handful of .308's, But they're been overshadowed by other new acquisitions.......like the 6.5.

I doubt I'll be posting here a lot, I tend to sniff around and read a lot when I'm looking for info, but as regards the 6.5 I'll be bringing my questions here. I may be a know-it-all about some things, but I'm a Noob when it comes to this round, and I hope to pick your brains as necessary for the tips and tricks you folks have gleaned from working with the Grendel.

Welcome to the forum Papajohn and thank you for your service. Be careful, the 6.5 Grendel can be addicting, kind of similar to you with your lever actions.

Welcome to the clan, pj6.5, from the great nation of Texas! Thank you for your service! If you haven't already done so, get the Vol's 1 &2 of the Grendel handbooks. Please don't be reluctant to ask questions, there are no dumb ones. We've all been there.

Grendel Handbooks? Are they published by Bill Alexander & Co? I never knew such things existed.

I think I've found a Pet Load for my CZ, it really likes the Speer 90-grain Gold Dot TNT bullet with 29 grains of H335. Groups are not great but still encouraging, under an inch when I don't screw up the shot and hold my jaw just right. I'm headed for South Carolina to see a friend, he has places where we can shoot out to 220 yards or so, thus giving me a chance to see if this load gets better with distance.

Jeez, all these bullets and powders to experiment with.....this may takes awhile. Darn the luck!
