    New to 6.5

Hi all, checking in from Central Virginia. I have been shooting/hunting for most of my life, and have had a few ARs as well. Started looking for a new caliber to build a hunting AR from since we can't use 5.56 here. Decided on 6.5g and then came across this site shortly after. Different calibers always interest me since I reload. I have been lurking and have gained alot of info already, think I'll stick around. Thanks for the wealth of information, and hi!

Welcome to the forum Hootie6828. The Grendel in an AR15 is an excellent round for pigs here in Texas, and it is not too shabby for deer either.

Welcome Dave. I'm new here as well as to the 6.5 Grendel. Similar experiences as yours with handloading, and AR's. I think that this caliber may be the best thing the AR15 has ever seen. :-)

"Hi all, checking in from Central Virginia."

Hey Dave - I'm new here as well, and also from the Central VA area - Lynchburg, to be exact. I started building my Grendel earlier today on a Sharp's Bros Hellbreaker lower. Can't wait to shoot it. Hopefully it will be finished tonight.

Where do you go shoot at? I don't have any property, so I'm limited to the range over at Safeside Tactical (110 yards). I'm waiting impatiently for the rifle range at Liberty University to open up - 300 yards! Fortunately, I'm a student there, so I have access to that. It's the main reason I chose the Grendel round.

I also spent four years in the Marines, many moons ago, shooting 5.56. Back in the good ol' days when you learned to shoot with iron sights. Now that I'm old, I find I need some magnification assistance, so I bought a Vortex scope. ;-)

Take it easy! Maybe we'll run into each other around here.

                  Happy shooting!

                  Jim
