    Howdy all -

I've been tinkering with the 6.5 creed and was thinking about going with one of the bigger 6.5's. (PRC, 6.5-284, etc) But I started to get the bug to do a short barrel bolt gun. One thing led to another and with the Howa 20" on sale at Brownells and doubling up on the coupon codes, it was too good of a deal not to miss out on. So instead of a big, long barreled barrel burner, I ended up with a Grendel.

This is going to be a project gun, going to do my own stock work (cheek riser/kydex) and pillar bedding. I'm also thinking a custom solid/simple/light chassis project down the road. (Man I need my own mill.)

Will probably see me around the bolt gun section and reloading areas.

Sorry, I might not have been very clear. I used a coupon code in addition to the sale price they had going and it worked. So it was doubly discounted, not double discount codes.

I had my first range time with my Howa last weekend. What a lovely cartridge and what a great platform. I only had time to do some rough fitting on the boyds stock to correct a couple of problems, put it together and bolted on a spare Trijicon 3-9x accupoint I had laying around.

To say I went out there with low expectations was an understatement. The scope came off a charger pistol build and to get to 100, I had maxed the turret out. I didn't have time to zero my optic at a bench before heading out to a platform overlooking a field of steel. My zeroing process was literally figuring out the full scope elevation, dividing it by two and putting it there. So it was at least mechancially centered, even if it wasn't aligned to my rifle.

First two shots at 120 yards rang a 1/4 size steel silhouette. Second two shot had no problem smacking an 18" disc at 288 yards. With just a top hold.

Man, there is a lot to love about the Grendel. Recoil is non-existent in a light rifle and that little howa handles like a dream.

I'm on north side now, we built a place near Dove Valley and I17, but previously lived in the heart of Glendale. Man, I miss being close to everything down there. Going to see the Yotes now is a major drive.
