Hey everyone,
I am Brad and currently living in Wichita. I have lurked this site for a year or so and have now joined because I caught the bug enough that I want to get my feet wet with the Grendel. I was worried that 224 valkyrie would steel some of the Grendel's thunder but after watching the reviews it seems that the hype is dying down. Nothing against the 224 but IMO it seems to be a one trick pony (1000 yard steel plinking). The Grendel seems much more versatile for hunting and even target shooting at my common distances. I've never shot a deer at 1000 yards so frankly I don't really care what the projectile does past 300 yards. Not that the Grendel can't make those distances as well.
To me the Grendel seems like the perfect general hunting round for anything deer sized down to varmints. My main use will be for deer followed by hogs. I am planning to start with a bolt action in Grendel to replace my Savage 308 FCP-SR. It's a fine rifle now that I un-tacticooled it by replacing the Rubbermaid 10 round mag with an all metal flush mag and replaced the beer can bolt handle with a more reasonable varmint style round handle. That said it is HEAVY! I considered the 308 a great all around cartridge but have since changed my philosophy (thanks to this website) realizing that for deer and hogs it is more power than I need and that comes with excessive weight and unnecessary recoil.
I am very excited about giving the Grendel a run through it's paces!
