    Howdy - Yet another Texan!

    I am new to the forum as well as the 6.5 Grendel.

    I am doing research for my first Grendel build. The primary purpose will be to hunt white tail, hogs and paper (in that order).
    It is good to see folks from NE Texas here. While I live in the Houston area I get up to Jacksonville quite a bit.

    Thanks for having me and I look forward to the fun.

        Welcome to the Clan, pkelly100, from another Texian! The Grendel is that ideal round that presents more answers than there are questions for. Enjoy! Keep us posted and remember, nothing is real until pictures and reports have validated it.

          Thanks.

          From what I see so far, I am afraid my wallet is not going to be able to keep up!!!

            pkelly, welcome from Nevada. Your wallet is going to take a beating, only because Grendels tend to multiply, and rather quickly.

                I appreciate the welcome and the offer to assist me in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I hear that it is bad for your back to sit on a fat wallet.

                I had always hunted with the traditional .270 30-06 etc.. Due to some health issues I needed to look into reduced recoil options. My research went down a lot of paths but the 6.5 Grendel kept coming back up again and again. I was not familiar with the Grendel but I did know the 6.5 was a capable caliber. Time (and money) will tell but this round in the AR platform appears to be just right for my needs and ability.

                This should be fun. Thanks again.

                  I have back troubles also. Ran 50 rds. through my Grendel yesterday no problems except for Murphy which has been a problem lately. Suggest you look into a rifle length build. And yes fun it is.

                    pkelly, my story is repeated elsewhere in this forum but will restate for you;
                    I have a nephew who fell out of a tree stand shortly after his 21st birthday, shortly after his first anniversary, shortly after the birth of his child, etc, broke his back and it paralyzed him from the shoulderblades down. He had been hunting with a 300WM. That was over but his passion for shooting and hunting was still very real. I built him a grendel and optimized it for minimum recoil. He has now shot several 'yotes and am waiting for the stories of his successes hunting deer. The Grendel in an MSR format is an ideal round for recoil challanged folks.

                      Great for kids as well, if you have any you would like to take to the range or take to the field when the season rolls around it can't be beat! As been mentioned by the folks above me , the Grendel is a great performer and has a mild recoil that can easily be tamed. The ballistics of the load for hunting is great, and won't be giving you the "morning after" soreness like your '06 or .270.

                        Welcome from Fannin county Texas. You might want to look into the group buy on 16 in barrel, and bolt.

                          Thanks again for all of the hospitality.

                          I did order one of the group buy bolts but I am still trying to decide on barrel length. fixen was right about all of the information available on this forum. There is something for everyone and everyone seems to have something unique. It is not hard to see how and why the 6.5 Grendel tends to multiply in your gun safe.
