What would the Horde do? Vortex scope and Leica lrf or just a Nightforce

I want a new scope for a grendel. I also want a good lazer rangefinder, which i presently dont have.

Option 1, go with the vortex viper pst 6-24 ffp and the Leica 1600b.

Option 2 NXS Nightforce in similar magnification range.

My planned intentions are to shoot at the range and hunt predators and deer. I may do a lr school someday but no plans for competition .

Could you swing a used Vortex Razor Gen I and the LRF? You can find good deals on that razor.

The Vortex and Nightforce scopes are both good, but also heavy. That's not as much of an issue for shooting at the range, but it starts to make a difference for hunting. If your primary use is hunting, you might want to open up your options.

Let me clarify the hunting situation for this gun. At my families camp, we have a 560 yd lane in front of the camp. The front porch has become one of our best stands. My goal is to get set up to take one of the deer that frequent the feeder about 550 yds out with the gun bagged on the picnic table.

I have a 16" carbine for climber use and another 20"er i will use in a box stand if my daughter has the 16.

Been a fan of the Grendel from the very beginning and haven't second guessed that choice one time.

Depends on what you consider far, it's only about 3.5 hrs. haha About halfway to New Orleans for me.

I would consider the Vortex 2.5-10x32 FFP then, and get your Leica. At the ranges you're talking about, you need FOV more than high magnification. Glass quality will be better on the NF, but in field conditions, with dust on the lenses, it's next to impossible for me to see those differences in practice. The NF scopes are the industry standard in durability, but you aren't beating the guns up anywhere near enough to justify that.

Another option to consider are the NightForce scopes without illumination, which go for just about a grand.

Go with option one. The Vortex is a good scope and a rangefinder is very valuable when setting up for LR hunting.

I have a Nightforce Atacr on my Precision Firearms Grendel. I just put a Vortex PST 6-24 on a Rock River 5.56. Foe the difference in price, I would go with the Vortex! The Atacr is great, but not worth three times more than the Vortex

After considering everyones input i think i am going to go with the vortex and leica.

For what i am doing i think the 2k and up scopes maybe overkill.

                          Thanks!

                              Aight,

After reading everyone's input, i think the vortex will suit me just fine because i am not going to a match, i don't have a place to shoot over 600 yd, my life doesn't depend on the optic and if i need to drive a tent stake in the ground i will use a hammer not the scope.

As for the leica, i have not read one negative comment. I figure on this item i will only buy once and be done with it.

If i know me , eventually i will end up with a s&b, uso etc. but i will have to rat hole money for a while. And, it will more than likely go on a very deserving bolt gun .
