Anthlon Ares scopes pros/cons

I?m considering the 2-15 anthlon ares in ffp mil/mil for hunting and target shooting. Anyone have quality time with this model and how does it rank as far as glass, mechanics and reliability? The previous scopes I?ve used were Burris Zeiss, old Weaver and old Tasco.

I've got 2 Midas's and an Ares. The Ares doesn't have much time under it's belt as the others do. So far they have been great and I am happy with them.. One thing I did notice at night with the Midas vs my Leupold. Leupold won on light gathering, The Midas was a OK but not nearly as good as the Leupold.

What model on the Leupy Popeye? Midas vs Leupold VX3 or higher isn't really a fair comparison by any means. It's more along the lines of a VX-Freedom or below. The ARES should fair much better in comparison, but with the magnification difference, it's hard to really compare the two. I will say I have owned several Leupolds lately, and have had an ARES BTR before, and would put the ARES in good company glass wise. The turrets weren't something to brag about, but it tracked so take that for what it's worth.

I wouldn't hesitate to get ahold of the 2-15 ARES for 400 bucks and never look back.

The only real problem with Athlon is their resale value vs the other established brands. Athlon is catching up though.

Your exactly right comparing them to a Leopold was not a fair comparison. I don't need a Leupold for what these guns do. Like I said I am VERY happy with my Athlons. Glass wise I agree but I guess the coatings on the Leupold lenses make a difference. There is NOTHING wrong with the Athlon glass in their price range and slightly above. Will take my Athlons hands down over Vortex. Chronus is a whole different story and class. Take the O rings out of the turrets and you will a whole different turret.

I did buy that 4.5X27 Ares from Midway and replaced a 2.5X15 Midas. I wanted more magnification for my old eyes. But that scope at that price is a steal. I am leaving the 2.5X27 on the M&P Sport it's more than enough glass for that .223. I was just giving a comparison I have not put the Ares against the Leupold there is no need to. It's doing it's job very well.

I have the Ares 2.5-15 on my build. I have really liked the scope for the range. Spent most of the summer working behind it while I dial in a hunting load. I was planning on using it for hunting as well, but have found that it is a little heavier than I would like when I don't have a support.

I got in on the 50% off at Midway and put the Ares BTR 2.5-15 on the kid's rifle. Looks like a Gen 2 is out now, so I assume it's Gen 1 clearance.

I was very surprised at glass clarity at distance. Range finder said around 1,000 yds, but it was trees; it comparatively looked much further to the eye vs 1,000 yds I have measured out.

I hear some people have said the turret clicks are too soft. But I read there is a hack for that! Take the turret off and clean out the grease, has been the magic bullet improvement.

No long term abuse experience to note. But out of the box @ $400 it is a steal.
