One day two dead scope mounts

Well gents while changing out scopes for my first night hog hunt of the season, my aero mounts both gave up the ghost.

Took my mane scope off my rifle to install my new night vision scope I got this week, put the new scope in my back up aero mount, went to install on rifle set the fat wrench at 20 inch pounds and before i hit the setting the screw strips out and the lug breaks off.

I like dang it all to you know what, so I take it off go to put my main scope back on and sure enough same screw strips out and lug cracks. I mean come one really two in one day.

So it gets worse I remove my main scope from its mount and on the bottom is sure enough some very deep dents from the mount. So my weekend hunts are down the drain now and I'm totally bumbed, I decide to give my rifle a good cleaning and I be dang my seekins handgaurd is missing a dang screw.

So Monday morning I have got to see if aero is going to replace the mounts and ship my scope to Vortex to have them check for damage and call seekins and see if they will send me some screws to replace the lost one and give me some back up screws.

I feel for ya, some days nothing goes right. Hopefully, those are far and few between. I've got a Areo Mt. and like it a lot, be interested to hear if they back up their product. Good luck.

Man, that does sound like a bad day! Sounds like you have a good use case for a QD mount.

Sounds like its time for a new torque wrench.

I doubt I'll ever buy a mount for under $150 again in my life, unless it's just a simple little micro red dot mount.

This is the 3rd Aero mount I've heard of that broke.

I've become a big fan of the NightForce UniMount. $252 is worth my range trips, hunts, and competitions not being jeopardized.

I was considering buying an aero mount. Guess i should reconsider towards the vortex mounts. If your hunts were in South Florida i would be happy to get you something to use.

Ive had days like that too and it really s*cks. I've read somewhere that the Aero mounts have that problem where the bolt/lugs will break off - mostly because the installer uses too much torque. Most mounts require 20 inch pounds, Aero specs in 15 inch pounds.
Here is info from their website...

                MADE IN AMERICA? Yes
                FINISH Anodized Black
MATERIAL 6061 T6 extruded aluminum construction
                SCOPE RING SIZE 30mm
                SCOPE MOUNT PROFILE Standard
                WEIGHT(S) 3.27oz
OTHER FEATURES Designed for AR type upper receivers
                Screw Torque - 15 in-lbs

Good luck with Aero! And a dented scope - that takes the cake!

Nothing wrong with the fat wrench.

This is the third aero mount that breaks like this, my first one broke the day I took it out the box and aero sent me a new one and told me the base screw take 20 pounds of torque.

When the first one broke I had just ordered a second one, so I put that one up and when my replacement came I installed it been on the rifle for a year now, been on and off the rifle several times and never had a problem.

This is three aero mounts that all broke in the same way, aero did me good the first time I hope they will again, but that being said if they replace them I won't be useing them, I will use a diffrent mount, so I guess if they replace them I will trade them off or sell them.

As far as the dents in the scope I'm not worried one bit it's off to Vortex and they will send a new one no questions asked.

Would love a unimount but it's out my budget range according to the check book holder that shares my bed, think I might try vortex mount this time around

Check Aadmount, while you're at it. Completely bulletproof, and available in 30mm with 20 MOA built in. I use Bobro and ADM QD mounts, as well, with 100% confidence, on most of my AR's.

I have the ADMOUNT on my precision AR. Bulletproof is an understatement

This is a less pricey option i have had good luck with

Soon as I here back from aero and they let me know what they will do, I will decide what mount I'm going with but at this time I'm either going with the vortex mount or the Leopold Mark 2 mount.

Don't like QD mounts and don't really need them. But I will give a look at the admount.

If you are switching the night vision and day vision optics, why not go with qd?

Midwest industries makes one. Cost me $175 at lgs.

Because I don't switch out the scopes that often I make very few night hunts, but when I do I swap out the scopes do a five shot group to check sight and hit the woods.

That is why i have a qd mount on my grendel. I planned to buy a thermal for.christmas but the technology is evolving so fast every time i make up my mind i read about another one.

Really interested to see what came out of the shot show this year. Built in laser rangefinders. Remote controls. Interface with laser rangefinders. Better resolution. We will see!
