Just got an Athlon Neos 4-12x40. Amazon has a crazy good price on these at the moment so thought I'd give them a shot. Seem like a solid company with good products and a great warranty. I can do a review once it comes in and I have a chance to go the range if anyone is interested. Thanks everyone for your input, much appreciated!

I've used the Primary Arms 4-14x44 on quite a few rifles and think it's probably the best bang for the buck if you're looking for something with higher magnification on a budget.

If you can find a nikon monarch on sale they are pretty good.
I've never had one not hold zero and have shot more sub MOA groups using one than I can remember.
I got a discontinued 3x9 for 200 and it works good enough that I've shot bughole groups with my 3 gun 556 using hornady 68 bthp over AR comp.

Agreed on the Primary Arms 4x14 and I find the ACSS reticle holds work great with 6.5G.

I recently replaced the SWFA 12X on my Precision Firearms 264LBC with an Athlon Talos 4-14BTR and I'm very happy so far with the glass, reticle, and tracking. The turrets are not crispy precise, but I'm very happy given the price point.

I've seen quite a few reviews where the PA scpes have broken, especially on semi autos.

I personally won't put anything but NF or Vortex on semi autos ever again.

Clays, I'll be honest... I'm a bit of an optics snob. I'm a long way from a college student; but even still, that doesn't mean that high-end optics are a drop in the bucket for me, With that said, I suggest that you shoot what you've got for now.

I would have suggested a fixed power scope like the Super Sniper 10X because adding features like proper variable power or FFP add to the price. But you are going to hunt with it and 10x can become real narrow in FOV real quick on live targets close in. On my SPR I use a Vortex Razor 1-4x and have no issues out to 600 (yards) so 7x is very viable. Hell, with the mirage here in TX even on my "big boys" I usually dial down to 1/2 power at 1,000 and 1,200 so my Khales sits at 12x and my NF sits at 11x most of the time.

Save your cash for a while longer until you can afford a decent mid-range variable power scope. I'm saving cash myself for a similar scope for my Grendel which will be my new hunting rig... the plan is for a Vortex PST 2.5-10X32 FFP (around $799) which will be very "huntable" and good for the range.

Keep you eye on ebay for Brunton Eterna.

I would buy this one today but I already have 4 of them. Great scope but they stopped making them so no warranty.

I don't care how good any scope is or how cheap. If they won't warranty it they won't get my money. I bought a used Leopold vari x III 3.5-10 x40 AO for $200. Sent it in telling them it would not hold zero. Looking back on it, there was probably nothing wrong with it; my scope leveling wasn't up to par. Regardless, I got a call two weeks later from Leopold explaining that they no longer made that model and would replace it with one of two options. I took the vx3 4.5-14x40 AO.

That's how you stand behind a product.

That scope you linked is $289. That's money better spent on something else.

Knowing everthing isnt as important as knowing where to find it.
