    New favorite Grendel Carbine Build

Here's my current favorite Grendel Carbine I recently finished:
    grendel_carbine_od_m.jpg
    • LMT complete Lower with 2 stage trigger
    • AA Upper
    • AA Forum fundraiser 16" Barrel / Bolt
    • GI Contract Bolt Carrier
    • LMT enhanced charger handle
    • YHM gas block/sight with lower rail
    • MOE OD Furniture (CTR Stock)
    • Clone LMT SOPMOD rear sight
    • M-60 Sling soon to be equipped with LMT QD swivels for convertible 2/1 point config

It's shooting great, well under 1MOA with optics, and not even broken in/dialed in yet.

Will probably put an Aimpoint Pro (T1 w mount) on it, though I've played with a loaner EOTech on it and liked it.

This is intended to be a basic combat carbine, no frills. And remain fairly light.

I like it. I'm going to do something similar for a hunting build.

You have an excellent set-up, very nice. My 16" AA tactical/hunting rifle is a great addition to my collection, and like you said very accurate. Try one of these VTAC slings http://www.vikingtactics.com/specials.html, it will balance out your rifle making it 'fit' right - hunting or tactically.

I bought an Eotech for my carbine for the simple fact that i like to be able to shoot out at a pretty good distance with it as well. With the Eotech it has a 1 moa dot in the center and will allow you to actually see targets out at say 200 yards alot better and be able to shoot certain spots more accurately. The aimpoint i had the dot was to big and covered up to much of the target out at that distance. Plus for close quarters combat with the Eotech say if you were clearing a room or defending your home pretty much anything thats inside of the large 65 moa dot is going to get hit, great for a quick target acquisition. But thats just my opinion. Great looking rifle.

The Aimpoint pro is slightly smaller than 2MOA dot, while the EOTech is the 65 MOA ring with a sub-moa center dot. I really liked the EOTech reticule, and I was able to shoot it at 200 yards with no problem. But the batterlife and durability of the Aimpoint pro is starting to swing me. And it's lighter as well. The Aimpoint has a 3 year battery life leaving it on all the time. The EOTech is 1 year +_ with a specific amount of usage. Big tradeoff.

The saying in the military apparently is: if they tell you to "go down and shoot those guys on the corner" you want the EOTech. But if they say "go to the corner, some bad guys may show up", you want the Aimpoint. Just Pro's & Con's.

Back to the carbine, I really like the handling, and despite all the more expensive setups you can have, I really like the MOE handguard & stock. The Vickers VTAC sling is what I have my eye on, but I have to get the QD socket for the handguard installed. (On order)

My next build will be a carbine length lightweight upper... 14.5" pinned pencil barrel, etc.

i have had my Eotech for 2 years and never changed the battery and it takes double A batteries which are a nice convenient and can be found anywhere. Thats with leaving it on the entire time for about a 4 hour period at the range everytime without shuting it off. The aimpoints battery would have to be found at a specialty store. But its what works best for people i guess.

The AA models are actually better than the others.
