DNT Thermnight Ranging & Ballistic Calc Testing: 324 Yard Sow

Nifty optic, priced for the newbie, but with capabilities of significantly more expensive optics. Last night, I was testing the night vision capability under fairly ideal circumstances with a 98.5% brightness moon. The scope performs better than I expected on digital night vision. Thermal appeared to be about what I expected for 256 resolution (which is fairly low).

I got my ammo ballistic data plugged in from various online sources, chrono reading info from my Garmin, plugged that into the ballistic calculator and was surprised and quite pleased to connect very close to where expected at 324 yards. What a nifty tool for lone boars and the like. Range them and shoot them while stationary from distance!

I tried to dampen Jasper's excitement about this little optic. I have seen several new items come on the market that didn't do that well. This one has the capabilities under a variety of circumstances. I erred on the side of caution, but this is really pretty cool.

    DNS,
yes, impressive indeed. just a little more fine tuning and those longer range shots become normal range shots.
    well done.

That NV/Thermal with LRF is pretty slick. Pretty small too.

Any reports on durability from long-term testing?

I get it for a total of 30 days. I doubt I will have more than 100 or 150 rounds throught it by the end of the 30 days. So that won't be from me.

These were originally ARKEN brand scopes and ARKEN sold off their stuff to DNT, not sure how or why this came to pass. The apparently sold off all their electro-optic lines. The Zulus (no thermal) have a good reputation. And that is about all I know.

            Great video as usual.

I am curious, have you taken a look at these settings on the scope to see what they do and if they make any difference at all in the image quality?

Imaging mode makes some subtle changes to the image. The second button takes you to all the normal settings.

Okay, I don't use the first button much. it is an adjustment I may try if the view is bad and i want to see if it helps. sometimes yes, sometimes no.

I would really like to see a 384 res thermal version. I would feel better with higher res to hunt with it. However, it is proving useful to get on targets. I was having trouble finding a buck at 300 yards with digital nv, in part because of the gazillion bugs flying into the IR light, but the thermal channel got me there toot sweet.

I really like the side button that switches between digital and thermal. VERY CONVENIENT AND USEFUL.

I hope to do some battery testing during my down time. I would guess that it is 3ish hours running thermal, digital, ir illuminator (occasionally) and lrf. the time does not sound that long, but this is on one 18650 battery only, so that seems like pretty good power mgmt, actually. In the field the scope ma spend a lot of time asleep or I may not use all the functions all the time and so real life runtime in the field could more. I have needed only one battery change in the field, but i ran it hard for about 2.5 hours, plus a lot of sleep time {display, illuminator, lrf are all off, but sensors and cores are on and ready for immediate use.

sorry for bad typing (worse than normal). Just got out of surgery. Left hand is immobilized and i have lots of meds onboard and I just can't get the caps to work every time, lol.
