  • Daughter's First Buck

Taken with a Grendel, of course.

This is the second deer she has killed with this rifle. Last year she shot a doe with it.

I took a buck with the same rifle earlier on the same day.

Load was the Hornady 123 gr. Amax. In this case the bullet shattered badly and there was no exit wound. The bullet did its job and scrambled the lungs, but I do like to see a pass through.

It was a good weekend. All four members of the family filled our deer tags.

Well done! It looks like a good sized deer. Where did the bullet hit?

Congrats -- where are you hunting with all that snow? Nice deer.

Great pic and an even better weekend. I take it that you have a very big freezer.

Size-wise, this is a pretty young deer. My son killed a big, mature buck the same evening that seems twice the size of this one. Incidentally, his buck was taken with a 6.5x55 in a Remington 700 Classic.

The bullet broke a rib a bit far back, just ahead of the diaphram, then angled forward and destroyed the lungs. The entry wound is visible in the photo. The buck ran over 100 yards dead on his feet.

We farm in northen North Dakota. A snow storm came through just in time for the start of our deer season.

Now to start using the Grendel on the local coyote population.

              Thats great for her!

I am to the point now when I go deer hunting, I would rather see my son shoot it than shoot it myself.

Nice shooting. Good to hear of family hunts that fill tags.

You don't have to worry about quartering it up quickly! Looks a little chilly.... Congrats.

AWESOME! I hope to get the opportunity to get my daughters in the field this year.

Hunting with the kids is far more satisfying than getting game of my own. They have both been very successful, but just spending time in a stand with them is wonderful. Beats the heck out of sitting at home watching tv....

Exactly. I live and hunt in southern Minnesota in a slug gun-only zone, so I don't use my Grendels, but my son got his first buck opening weekend and it was far more satisfying than mine.
