3 Hogs Down - This is for Lemonaid!

Nasty weather. I was going home, retreating from bad weather, when I spied this hogs on one of my properties. I am not going to leave damaging targets in the field if I don't have to, so I stopped and went after these hogs.

This seemed like a good opportunity to address several of the questions Lemonaid had asked previous as I went through several of the specific processes in real time that made it onto video.

Nice work! 4 shots fired, 4 hogs hit; 3 of which were running. 3 instant drops, and one that ran off; but probably won't be doing so good this time tomorrow. That's seriously impressive skill not only at shooting, but stalking, identifying, and maximizing the engagement.

Question for you - do you feel the suppressor is essential?

I think a suppressor is an excellent piece of safety gear and that everyone should use them if they can. Is it essential for hunting hogs? No.

I would like to believe that the hogs were not running away at full speed because the sound of the report was reduced by the suppressor, hence their fear factor was not as high. That may be partially true, or they just weren't going to run fast, regardless. I have seen similar slower running with unsuppressed shots as well, but I think it is more common with suppressed shots. Also, the fact that I wasn't blasting away rapid fire contributed to the hogs not being terrified, I believe.

My beliefs may not reflect actual truth, but suppressed or not, I know that when blasting away, particularly with multiple shooters, unsuppressed or suppressed, hogs tend to run like bats out of hell.

Very nice! My complements to the director Der SchweineMorder. There are a lot of decisions going on that are not obvious to me at least. Thanks for letting us get a vicarious chance to hunt hogs and great info to help others to succeed if they get the chance for the real deal!

That's one bullet I would never shoot a deer with.

Orchard, that's funny we say the "Ray Charles could follow" that blood trail here in N Central Florida too. I have only shot hog (no deer) with a 6.5 Grendel. All with Hornady factory 123 grain SSTs . All head shots but one, running shot 25? Yards quartered away with entry behind lungs out tight behind the opposite shoulder medium sized hog was down in 30 yards. All SST head shots had exits but could have been skull pieces making exit hole as much as lead and copper? I really enjoy the DNS videos, I like that he puts safety first and explains every move with good detail.

The message I got out of this thread is that TNT is darned near a frangible. Highly effective and decent penetration, but shatters and will spew metal bits all into the meat. Which I gather is an unpleasant experience when eating meat that was near the impact. So for killing stuff, it's great. For harvesting meat... well, try to do head and neck shots I guess?
