Gentleman,
6.5 Grendel flat out works on deer. Opening day of KY rifle season found me in a woods blind in far Western KY with one of the new palmetto state armory 18in 6.5 grendel uppers loaded with Hornady SST. Buck eased up ridge, through fairly thick growth, at around 65yds. He worked up the trail heading away from my blind at about a 30 degree angle. I didn't have much time to look him over as he was moving at steady pace and the trees blocked much of my view. All I could tell was he was big. He moved through some thick cover and I thought I had lost him but he made mistake of stepping into opening between trees and I was able to place one shot to heart at a subsequently lasered 78yds. Recoil was so light I was able to see him drop in scope. When I came up on him I discovered he was far larger than I anticipated. Took 3 of us to drag him to logging road and when winched up on scale he came out at 240 lbs prior to being dressed. Very nice 8 point. Very little meat damage, no pass through. I did not recover bullet as I was more concerned about finishing dressing him out and getting inside to a well earned fire and bourbon than performing a necropsy in the dark. I had my doubts about 6.5 working on large deer but I am a believer and have now found my "do everything rifle."
