9 Hogs Down with Speer TNT - Solo Hunt

Since the oats field had been harvested and it had been over two weeks, HuntTXhogs and I had set up a feeder on another part of the property where there was hog traffic, right next to a pond. It seemed like a great place for more hogs to show up and that could be shot very safely. After all, the oats should be played out for the most part.

Well, I sat for just over 4 hours watching that pond. The feeder was only set to go off in the evenings...and I saw ZERO hogs. So I thought I would check by the oats field before accepting defeat and going home. The rest of the evening was surprise after surprise...

And those were some of the nicest, most considerate hogs anyone will ever kill. Did you see how those nice hogs from Sounder #2 realized that I was having a problem with my gun and stopped and waited for me to clear the malfunction? And did you see how other hogs would come to me so that I would not have to shoot so far? Those hogs were raised with good manners!

Great night, Brian. Did i see that wrong, or did you have 2 doubles? Looked like the standing shot at sounder #2, just after clearing the jam, and the running piglets went down 2 at a time. Certainly an impressive pyramid of pork.

Certainly a target rich environment. Nice job.

Apparently, I did. Thank you! I had not noticed the twofer on the standing group from Sounder #2 (2:28 in video) as I fired at the group twice. The second shot, which I thought dropped the 2nd hog, apparently missed into the ground. I don't know about the second twofer as the 2nd hog did not go down. It appears to have been hit, but as much as these bullets fragment, it was potentially inconsequential.

Thanks for pointing these out. I usually go through the shots frame by frame, looking for how the animals react, visible body damage, overpenetration (dust kicked up behind, bullet arcing off in new trajectory), why I missed, etc. as I put the video together. I also do an audible analysis to listen for impacts (this only works when the ground is dry, otherwise missed shots hitting wet ground sound like shots that hit flesh). Due to other things going on, these analyses did not happen this time. The only shot/impact analysis I did was in looking at why I had to shoot at that one sow so many times starting at 4:17.

Heck of a night. love the spotted hogs. The TNT is probably the safest bullet to shoot at night and seems reliable enough.

It looks like a good shooting position at the feeder , perhaps it’ll draw them in at the time it drops corn...

This puts the count over 60 since April on that field alone, right?

                      Very good job

63 so far since April 3 this year, with 3 being from the adjacent sorghum field (before the sorghum grew above ankle height, LOL). The rest are from this one oat field.
