    One More Big Dog Down

    Video... https://youtu.be/UxJC2H7cjCY

I shot two big males from the same stand last week and this boy was also big and seemed to be dominant over the other coyotes that came out. I heard loud howls nearby and used a female challenge call in response and very quickly three coyotes came up out of the creek bottom and another bigger male came in from behind me.

The male wasn't terribly impressed with turned the other yotes around and they all headed back toward the creek, but then the big male stopped to leave his scent...

Amazing video. You can actually pick up the hot blood trail in the video if you look closely at the slow motion. Looks like the IR scopes have improved their video recording by leaps and bounds since last years. Merry Christmas to you and yours, Brian.

      Nice hunting!

Which thermal scope did you use?

It seems to have excellent performance.

      Merry Christmas!

The scope I am currently using is the IR Defense, IR Hunter MKII. It is a 2.5x native magnification (with digital zoom of 1, 2, 4, or 8 times), 35mm lens, 12 micron microbolometer with 640x480 resolution, 30 or 60 hz scope. This was the top of the line for IR Defense until they came out with the MKIII line which includes a 2.5x, 35mm version with the new firmware, plus a 4.5x, 60mm lens version with the new firmware. I think the 4.5x, 60mm version is going to be very nice, particularly for longer range hunters.

Thanks! Yeah, I watched and rewatched the video frame by frame and I would have guessed the follow-up shot was far to far in front, but the yote had two big exit holes (one mid body and one down by his elbow). So, I got a bit lucky. Both hits would be fatal, but the 2nd shot made sure he wasn't going too far.

Nice work DNS !! The Grendel is great round. Not meant for Big Bears !- but most medium sized game.
