Liberty Barrel Group Buy Build Comments

Has anybody had any difficulties inserting their bolt into their bolt carrier? I could not insert by bolt until I noticed that the extractor tail measured .015 inches above the rest of the bolt surface. I lifted the claw up to lower the tail and it slid in. Will this cause undo wear to the bolt carrier or to my extractor tail? I matched it to my AA bolt and my PF bolt and they all were flush or lower than the bolt surface. I am thinking I may wait for my Maxim bolt and use this one as a backup.

Yeah, I might do that, but maybe before I do I can see if this is a one in a million fluke, bad extractors, or just bad QA. Hopefully other Liberty builders will, in time, respond and post some pictures and address issues they may have. The Liberty Group buy thread is getting pretty huge. I am starting to see where the finish is getting thinner at the very end of the extractor just above the extractor spring.

Dang, I knew somebody would ask for pictures. I finally figured out how to put a picture in my profile, in my album. I don't know how to get it out of there to a post. I am a bit computer challenged.

You might want to contact Satern and see if they found a few like that. They also might have bolts in stock they can swap it out for if its a bad one. They bought from someone, not to say it was or wasn't Underground so let them be the liaison between there vendors. JMO and that is what I would do.

Definitely not one of our bolts.

How'd you do that? Thanks, As we can now see the little protrusion of the extractor is enough to bind on the inside of the bolt carrier and would only insertion part way. I am thinking that the compression of the new gas rings my also hinder the insertion as it is getting easier the more I "work the bolt'. I really don't think it is going to be a really big deal, but I never saw one stick out that far before. Plus, two of my other new bolts slid right in the new carrier.

Try your AA Extractor on that bolt and it will most likely work or just take measurements from an AA bolt and it will match this. Also that is a 9310 bolt, good product.

Some people use an o-ring on extractors and some pull them out, I wonder if they left it out. If you can, remove the extractor and compare the two, I would like to know what you find.

Did you read my note, the rings are the identifying marks used by Maxum.

Also if you put a case in the bolt , the extractor will probably sit flush. Check for the o-ring.

Thanks, I examined both extractors, and they look identical. The extractor pin on the AA bolt is slightly longer and not tapered at the end. The Liberty barrel bolt pin is tapered and very slightly shorter, but enough so you want to be careful to center it in the bolt. Both extractors fit below the bolt surface on the AA bolt and both extractors protrude above the bolt surface on the Liberty barrel bolt. Even with swapping pins. So is the bedding for the extractor higher/not as deep or the pin hole drilled higher? I am unable to tell definitively with these old eyeballs. I agree with the observation with a casing in it may solve the protrusion issue, but haven't tried that yet.

As I play with it more and more it gets easier. I am really turning my attention to the rings getting into the carrier as it catches a bit even with the extractor removed. I am thinking newly machines, rings on a newly machined carrier, might need a little more wearing and more jiggling. Careful ring centering and alignment helps too, jiggling and pressure now works without the need to lift the extractor claw. Still, I still haven't seen an extractor protrude that far. Something to keep in mind if I have FTE issues. Thanks for everybody's help.

Further observation with a snug fitting piece of balsa wood shows the bedding groove of the AA bolt to be about an Exacto knifes' width deeper than the Liberty bolt, in this unscientific comparison. The score marking on the wood from the liberty bolt goes slightly deeper and almost out of sight in the AA bolt. Again hopefully not an issue unless I get extraction problems, but I am way far away from completing the build. I don't have all my parts yet. I found this inconsistency just by trying insert my bolt into the carrier. I just never have seen one that high before. If other Liberty Builders have comments, questions, issues, Please post them so we all can view and compare.

My new bolt I got with my liberty barrel was a little right too but it did go in .
