    New Build - First Grendel

I am looking to complete my first grendel build. The gun will be used for hog, yotes and deer out here in California. I am also interested in non-competitive target shooting at various yardages and would like the gun to be able to hit steel at 1k yards every once in a while. I do not reload at this time, although I have been saving brass to eventually get into it.

Im operating on a limited budget, around $1000 to complete the remainder of the rifle. I currently have a stripped Anderson lower, cmmg parts kit, and a rra nm 2 stage should be delivered soon.

I am looking into the radical firearms 20 inch complete upper. At that price point of $540, I'm just not seeing anything that's beating it price rise. A match grade barrel and ready to shoot upper is really tempting. So far I have seen good reviews. Your guys thoughts on this?

I am also getting hung up on a stock for precision shooting and hunting with the ar platform. I do not hunt with my 5.56 so a carbine adjustable is perfectly fine. I am considering the magpul prs for this build, but at 250 and a limited budget i feel I could compromise a little on the stock to put more towards a quality optic. Your thoughts on acceptable stocks for the range and hunting?

Remaining odds and ends include grip, bipod, buffer assembly, etc...

My first AR-15 had an A-2 stock with 20" H-Bar 5.56/223 and I like it but I don't need adjustable cheek piece. For my 20" 6.5 Grendel I used a PSA six position collapsable stock. If your going to be shooting from cramped field positions the collapsable stocks are nice. If your the only shooter and mostly shoot from prone or bench it is hard to beat the price of an A-1 or A-2 fixed stock. If your letting younger shooters or short statured people use your rifle the collapsable are hard to beat.

On a limited budget I prefer to put the priority on a good barrel and a good 20 MOA mount and a scope which can be counted on to track correctly with good glass. If your going to shoot beyond 800 yards you really need to consider a 20 MOA mount otherwise your scope will likely run out of elevation adjustment.

I thought about going with a1 or a2 just to hold me over. Have you heard anything about the barrels radical uses in their gendel uppers? I've also considered the vltor mur upper with a brownells barrel, but that puts me around 470 w.out a hanguard. I'd also have to buy a torque wrench, upper clamp, and a breaker bar. So that's definitely the more expensive option

Reports on here seem to sugest radicals uppers are good shooters.

PF makes a heavy wall forged upper for under 100, could save you a few bucks for the handguard.

Radical has quite the lead time right now, so I looked around and found their 20inch upper at joebobs outfitters. Happened to be on sale for 499, add 5% veterans discount and I feel I got a pretty dang good deal. I went with the standard a2 for now until I can justify the prs. Bought the a2 and buffer assembly at the same site for 50 bux, not bad imo and will do for now. Has anyone used joebobs before?
