    Howa Mini HB incoming!

I ordered up my Mini Howa 1500 in 6.5 Grendel with the HB setup in OD today, may be here on Saturday! Do these use the same Rem 700 Short Action scope rails as the Howa 1500 SA does or do I need to order another rail?

You need a mini action specific rail. I also have the outer impact 20 MOA rail. I got mine off eBay for free 2 day shipping.

I like the Warne two piece mounts. They make loading one at a time easy when bench shooting.

Warne Maxima steel bases are the strongest, most versatile mounting system. Low-profile steel construction is a significant upgrade from other two-piece bases.

Wow - you learn something every day. As far as I knew, Warne & EGW were the only two companies making one piece scope rails for the Mini action. This Outer Impact unit looks like an attractive alternative. Thanks for posting the link.

Mine arrived today! Outer Impact 0 MOA rail and the DIP bottom metal was installed. Forend is very flexible, so I need to figure that out or get a new stock.

I just sanded my barrel channel to give plenty of clearance. No problem with floppy fore end from sandbags. But I still need to try it from a bipod and see if that presents an issue.

Until we have a legit upgrade available for these Mini actions, I'll stick with the factory stock. I've seen floppier...

Jason, is the Boyd's not a legitimate alternative? Or Hogue's polymer version? There are chassis available as well?

If I need to look more before I grab a Boyd's, let me know. The plan is to finish my son's build in the coming month.

When I hunt, I use a Primos Trigger tripod, so if the forend flexes and hits the barrel, it can throw the shots off. From the bench, I use a bench rest just in front of the mag well, so it's not as much of an issue. I read somewhere about someone stiffening a forend with stiff aluminum arrow shafts, so I may try some aluminum bedded into the forend to see if I can make it stiffer. I will also open up the barrel channel a bit as well.

I was thinking of going with a Boyds in a nicer (25%-50% figure) Walnut or Maple to keep the weight down vs the laminates, but I would have to pillar and bed it, too. Or just pay the $500 for the Brownells Mini chassis and add the pistol grip and stock to it, but thats lots more $$$!

Scope and rings should be here tomorrow on my day off!!!

I just meant that any of the currently available options aren't really any better than the factory stock in my opinion. Something both lighter and stiffer like the Bansner/HiTech stock that Howa Alpine rifles came with would be an upgrade.

I saw my forend had a good bit of flex and was hitting the very front of the stock pretty easily, so I relieved that area. The stock has even more flex (I only relived the very end where that lip is that was hitting the barrel. The stock flexes even more now that it doesn't have the stock to limit, but it looks like the barrel will not hit that lip anymore except with a lot of pressure. I will shoot it and see how it does with bipod vs benchrest type front rest and see if I can inlay some aluminum in there to try to cut down the flex. I did this with a CZ 452 trainer stock since the forend moved a bit, so I am hoping I can stiffen up the front of this stock a bit. I use a tripod when hunting and would rather have it out to the front of the stock vs right near the magazine.

Brownells BRN-1 (MDT) chassis is enroute; should be here Tues! I will still stiffen the forend on the factory stock. Picked up 4# of 8208-XBR, 3# of CFE223, 2# of both 748 and AR Comp. Bullets from Midway will be here tomorrow!
