How do you all like your CZs ?

I am an old codger and I have a hankering for one last hoorah. The CZ micro Mauser in 6.5 Grendel is appealing. I usually buy only American, but I have yet to read a favorable review of the Ruger American in 6.5 Grendel. Even the not negative ones end by saying that they have traded the Ruger off for something else. Accuracy, reliability, a smooth action are of primary importance to me. Once upon a time, in a far off place, I was a fair to middling shot out to the limits of my '06 M1, generally about 600 yards. What i could have done with the Grendel on an accurate platform! I am too old and crippled up to go hunting, so punching paper will probably be my only shooting activity. So, what do you CZ owner's, current and past, have to say about the CZ 527 American in 6.5 Grendel?
    Best Regards,

My first rifle was a CZ 527 in .223. Light, excellent reliability, nice action and perfect size for a 223. Unlike Picatinny or Weaver the CZ scope base is proprietary so you need to look for dedicated CZ mounts. I think Warne makes a set that are very reasonably priced. There are two trigger settings; normal and set. For set you close the bolt and push the trigger forward. I never used it as it is too light. Stock was a bit short/small for me so I lengthened it and put a pad for a cheek riser.

CZ-USA is a subsidiary company to CZ based in Kansas so there's a fair bit of made-in-USA. Unsure how much is made as opposed to assembled in the States but CZ are e reputable company and make good quality gear if that's your concern.

I have a 527 in 6.5 grendel and love it. It's set up with a sig whiskey 3 4x12x50mm on it and if I do my part it shoots 7/8s of a in. all day and that's with hornady 129sst. So I'm very happy with this gun and it's really not to heavy to carry around all day either

I have a couple 527s one Premier in 223 and one that started as a 7.2X39 and is now a Grendel. This was done a couple years before CZ got off their butts and started chambering the 527 for the GRR. My experience the more you work the action and shoot one the better the action does, still some slop that some do not like but good enough mine are going no where. A good glass and pillar bedding job cut the groups in half on the 223 so had the other one bedded before I ever shot it.

DIP industries makes a neat pic mount that uses the grooved receiver mounts and gives you a good solid mount for using regular rings.

Thanks for the information, just what i wanted to know. Cannot waste time or money buying junk. Social Security and a joke of a pension don't go very far these days.

I like my CZ527 in 6.5 Grendel. I will repeat that working the action really smooths it out so if you find it rough after getting it just spend some time in the evening while watching TV or some other pass time to work the bolt in the action.
It makes a dramatic difference for a little time and no expense.

Mine shoots well and I look forward to taking my first deer with it. No opportunity this past season as I didn’t get to hunt much.

I understand that as I am in a similar situation, no penision, but a nice bunch of retirement funds, 401k and some non qualified mutual funds, so based on my 401 adviser should be well fixed for life considering everything is paid for.

I have two CZ 527, and older prestige model in .22 Hornet and a American in 6.5 Grendel. and on the other end a 550 Safari American in .375 H&H. All are excellent rifles, but out of the box the actions are very stiff and tend to bind a little. If you work it a bit you will see the beginning of some wear marks, and I generally do a little stoning with a very fine ceramic stone. Many corners in various places on the bolt have very acute or sharp corners and I break and barely round those edges and corners. There was a place on the back of the receiver , almost unnoticeable where the bolt handle root contacted when opening that had a lot of deep machine marks that made the action rather rough. a bit of stoning and touch up blueing did wonders for smoothing opening the bolt. I had this problem on my new Grendel , the Hornet which is about 20 years old, and my .375 which is about 10 years old, so nothing uncommon for CZ rifles. You can also put a bit of Flitz, or similar polishing compound on the bolt and cycle it a bit to smooth things. out.

Triggers are nice, and can be adjusted quite light and crisp. Even though my trigger pull gauge shows only ounces for my set trigger pull, in use it does not seem any lighter than my non set pull which is around 2 1/2 lbs. Sounds strange but just my feeling across the board on all three rifles.

I have read on this forum about problems with the 6.5 Grendel rifles, but have had no problems with mine and would buy again, It's simply a nice classic looking rifle sized properly for the cartridge. I have one of the Leuopold VX 3i 3.5-10 scopes on it. Of all the bolt action 6.5 Grendel rifles out there I would buy this one again, as I like classic walnut and blue steel vs the plastic on so many of the others.

I have the 527 american in grendel and love it! It will be a main go to carry rig for me for all but sheep hunting as i have a blaser k95 set up for that which takes down and stuffs in the pack but is a single shot. I do as much predator calling as i do big game hunting if not more predator calling so like a repeater for that work and couldn't imagine a better suited cartridge for combined predator big game work.

So far the usual cz 527 stuff, smooth the action with jb bore compound and cycle it a couple hundred times, polish the feed lips of the magazine, pillar/bed/crown. Adjust the trigger down, mine went to around 2 1/4 lbs and the creep screw would back out allowing creep back in and pull to go up to 2 3/4 lbs so a little blue loctite on that little screw and shouldn't need to address that again but easy if so, would hit it with red if i had to touch it again. I adore these little cz's.

My biggest gripe is it's so short that scope mounting is an issue. Need short eye relief scopes or scope that's very short from glass to the first tube mounting location before the turret.

I'm going with a leupold fxII 4x33 with a dial up elevation knob installed so i can still dial up 4-600 yard stuff when it's all set up. I have a fxII 6x36 on hand and also a vxII 2-7x33 and they both still need to be slammed way too far forward imo. The 6x36 has a longer eye relief than the 4x and also longer tube between eye and turret....the 2-7 has the added length of the magnification adjuster. The 4x33 is about the shortest and in some google i wasn't the only one who found that out also.

Matters not as this will be an ideal scope for the rifle and cartidge combo. I thought about the gloss version to keep the class up for for all the predator calling stuff i'll likely sleeve the barrel and matte on the scope will be better.

Worth setting one of these up imo! One of my fav all time rifles for some reason. Only 40 rounds on mine, when i got serious at the bench and gripped down i shot 3 into half inch with factory for one group so the potential is there.

I have a Leupold VX3i 3.5-10 50mm scope on mine, used standard height rings and have no problem with the bolt handle clearing the ocular.

More on bolt handle clearance. I have the warne 1" medium rings which i believe are the lowest available for the cz, clears all the leupold scopes i've put on it so far no problem, vx2 4-14x40ao, vx2 2-7x33, fx2 6x36 etc.

                          Folks,

I was in love my CZ527 in 6.5 Grendel, till I shot it. Bullets key holed, would not hold zero, sat at CZ North american for 2 months. In defense of CZ America they were very gracious, it turned out that the barrel was way out of spec. Further the holes in the receiver for the scope mounts were drilled off center. Not what I expect for a $721 rifle. Would buy again if they have their shit together. Blued steel and walnut love it. A2

Have to wonder about your negative thread on the Ruger Ranch in 6.5 Grendel after reading the above post..
                            Sad!

Guys, I truly appreciate all of your comments, many more than I expected. This forum is much more newbie friendly than some others that I have joined. One more question, on some post I read that someone builds a rail that fits the CZ 527 and allows the use of standard Picatinny (SP?) or weaver rings. I have been unable to relocate that post. I know about Warne rings for the 527, but just for information purposes I would like to know the name of whomever makes the adaptor rail, just in case.
                              Best Regards to all,
