It looks like my throat is not too bad. The beer helped.
My Grendel's throat is not too bad either. There is a slight difference in the land start point from side to side on the cast.
It is difficult to see with all the inclusions.
Neck .301"
Groove .265"
I poured the metal in the chamber and it hardened into the bolt lug recesses.
I had to remelt it and pour a bit out. I needed a heat gun. The hair dryer was not hot enough.
When I try my next one I will try to portion out only the amount needed so as to avoid overfilling.
Now that you have the first one over with you can tweak your procedure. Looks like it cooled too fast in the throat area. Did you warm the barrel with the heat gun before you took the cast?
I used the hair dryer on the barrel initially and I think it was too cool.
I wanted to make sure my bore was not off center with the chamber which I think I did so it was worth it.
Tweaking my procedure includes not locking the cast into the bolt recesses.
I will try another in the near future.
