6.5 Grendel Howa 22" barrel, field report. Coyote hunting.

    Folks,

Took the Howa out today for a few hours to do some coyote hunting. I have carried various platforms into the field with me dog hunting. Howa long actions in 6.5x55, AR15 rifles in various configurations. AR15 with bull barrels, lighter contours, so on.
But without a doubt, this is going to be my favorite. With scope, bipod 13-24 ,full mag, sling 6.0lbs. The AR15 rifles weighed between 8-9 pounds.
The Mini was light, easy to move. I had no trouble with the magazine. I had made up loads for the rifle. California has gone almost completely lead free.
So I used 100gr TTSX 6.5, Privi brass,#34 primer over 27gr of RL15. Should give about 2575fps. I did 3 stands between 430pm and 645pm. Temp was about 55-65 degrees. I am here with my family in the Eastern Siera, near Mammoth California.
We will be here until Monday, will try a few more stands and hopefully report back. This rifle is a winner!!!!!!!!A2

          Folks,

Day 2 on the coyote was once again, uneventful. With the holiday weekend it is very crowded. Lots of fisherman, campers. The archery season for X9A is in full swing, some hunters. But very few.
The deer are skittish, seeing lots of does, some with fawns. Did a bit of walking with the Howa, it's light weight will be very advantageous for deer hunting and the coyote stand. With the bipod attached the stock is a bit flexible. The bipod is a Harris 13-24 inch. That's my only gripe about the Howa, it is not a Hogue, thank goodness. A2

I am confused. In earlier post I thought you said the stock was a Hogue. Do you say it isn"t?

              Drift,

It is made by a company HTI, although less flexible than the Hogue stocks. It still has more flex than I like. A2

The plastic stocks are styled after a Hogue rubber thingy, but are a harder plastic.

Sadly not a fibre reinforced plastic so whilst they are stiffer than a Hogue, they are not really stiff enough for wrapping up with the sling or holding steady on the bipod.

                    Mag capacity clarification?

Every advertisement I have seen indicates the 10 round Magazine to be standard. The few post I have seen of those who have actually held the Howa Mini Grendel indicate the 5round mag is the actuall standard mag offered for the Howa Mini Grendel.

So do you mind me asking the mag capacity in this instance? If I were to acquire one of these, the 5 round option would be my preference. Heck I would be happy with a 2 or 3 round mag if offered.

Just to heat this debate up again, interestingly, Sootch00's review (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxdu2nc4viw) states a 10 round mag?

Do they come with one or two mags?

                              Thanks, Dinny
