AICS Mags for Grendels - Any updates?

It seems the original post died in 2013 with a comment about how easy this is to do and someone who "does it all the time".

Can anyone be more specific eg pictures? Is the 223 or 308 the better mag to modify if needed? Particular mag brand?

I'm searching for Savage conversions to a M24 type dbm.

    Thanks, Will

I have run grendels thru an AICS double stack mag (308), with no ftf, but YMMV. I went bdl route on my Grendel build, however, my chamber so far likes everything loaded to mag length so I'm thinking of swapping to ptg bottom metal that utilizes ar mags.

That was me. I'll post up some pictures tonight. I've not converted AICS 223 plastic magazines to use Grendel, but I have them working brilliantly with 6mm BR which is the same length, but fatter.

Thanks guys. Looking forward to the pics adamjp!
I was looking at the PT&G site earlier but saw nothing as far as AR mags as an option. That would simplify things immensely.

If u want to use a ai mag I would contact ts customs or primal rights. They have a conversion kit, I think they are 40 bucks and the mags feed flawlessly for br and ppc rounds.

Richard that is exactly what I'm looking for except it's for a Remington.
Tarvis24 I'm waiting to hear from both your suggestions, thanks!

I've seen the CDI DBM but I'd prefer not having to buy another stock and to be able to use my existing AR mags?

Does anyone offer any experience with the plastic mags used in the CDI setup?

              Thanks, Will

If you hear from these guys let us know what they say. I didn't see anything on their site about it. Thanks

Using a plastic AICS magazine box for the 223 family. Open out the feed lips and the guide ribs just below them inside the box.

                  Feed Lips.jpg

until the cartridge sits like this

                  Case Protrusion.jpg

Then you will need to adjust the lips at the forward end of the box to get the feed just right for your action and where the magazine box sits in relation to it.

It might not be on there website yet, u will just have to give them a call. They actually might not be in yet I am actually still waiting for mine but when ts customs build my gun he used one in a video and said when the springs come in he would send one my way. If u go to ts customs Facebook page there is a great article from primal rights on reloading and there is a pic of the ai mag with the conversion kit. He's shooting a 6br and using ai mags with the conversion kit.

I just talked to Travis at ts customs and he said primal rights should be selling them next week.

That's interesting because I got a couple of emails from Travis to the contrary.
I've never been much for moderation, but I think I'm going to shelve this project for now and just spend more time with my other 6.5's.
I've got three Grendels, a .260 Rem, a Swede, and a Lapua. I'd really like to "upgrade" my .25-06 to a 6.5-06 but my Sendero shoots SO well!!
Maybe I'll just keep my eyes open for an 06 variant donor and build the 6.5-06 with an easily sourced DBM?

Thanks for your help guys, Will
